First thing's first. How does Mariabel's power even work? Is there a limit to how many people she can control and how hard she can control them? If not, then why doesn't she just mind-control her way to whoever runs the world right now and then mind-control them too? Like how when bibi went to the US and then the gents in the middle east started having a blast one day.
If there is a limit to how many people she can control, then she needs to scale down her ambition.

You can't really find out anything about a person by making them act out of character or by putting them under mind control. Also, the council is a public affair, and she has people working for her there. Just probe Rimuru with questions and provocations all day, every day, until you get a good feel for his character.

Suppose a whole bunch of powerful and important people died. How would that implicate Rimuru when a whole lot of still-alive powerful and important people saw that Rimuru was acting in self-defense? Assuming you're talking about the scene that happened in this very episode, the king was literally there. He'd be aware of all the events and thus would not need to be convinced of anything. Alternatively, if the king is under Mariabel's influence, then why bother with the song and dance at all? By the way, isn't Rimuru on the demon lord council (or whatever it's called), which kinda supersedes the human one?

I feel like I am way overthinking this, and I also feel like the show should have spent these five episodes properly introducing the antagonist and actually setting up the conflict instead of dicking around in the dungeon.
