Because the core message of being good is left out right at the end, Mob had to a good person to himself before he could start to fully let his friends and family grow closer to him. Being good, what exactly are the qualities of that? I expect people who got angry never made it to the end of the show. Being good doesn't mean repressing yourself but to find healthy, productive, and helpful outlets for your wishes. Most of the show makes Mob come off as a pussy, so it's fair if people think the narrative is shallow at that point. Only few times we see why Mob holds back his powers and how destructive he can be. Focusing on the subtext, I can say it's just a coming of age story, and some people are mentally ill or retarded so they never mature to the point of understanding these aspects of life. Not saying it in a bad way, just do your best if it actually makes you mad.
