First, ditch the home console market while remaining the king of the handhelds. Learn from all the mistakes my predecessors at Nintendo made with the N64 before making more of them myself. Secondly, go mercenary and offer Sony console exclusivity on the lucrative home console software we're now focusing on, and earn millions before even writing a line of code. We could go to Microsoft and get more, but we'll sell more games on PS2.

third party support. gta was THE game to play at the time. (even more so than today) the gamecube was the only major gaming platform without gta on it completely mind boggling in hindsight. the modern equivalent would be to release a console today with no fortnite or minecraft. all the other "issues" of the console are completely secondary. it just lacked games. yes melee is fun but it was not the juggernaut it became with ultimate, it was a lot more niche than you would expect.

Nothing could really be done, the Gamecube didn't have a DVD player, nor the ability to allow you to play custom soundtracks in games. Maybe an internal hard drive and broad band internet built in, would have helped?
