Hey Guize! Welcome to my TEDx TalkFinally got to take a couple pics of my RG DS+ and the case I got for it. As usual with my helds I got it a bag and pins/patches, but ended up using an old High-School (2005) patch I used to wear on my Messenger Bag back then.The patch is in horrendous conditions, but I am using it for the "backside" of the carry case, it is not the front, it only works as a nostalgia token.I saved my Messenger Bag for decades, but it was too wornout so I only salvaged the patch, which got damaged in the process.I know it looks horrid, but I used to love that movie (Donnie Darko) and my Messenger Bag, those were the years I had a GBASP (my last OG handheld). I used that bag when the NDS came out.Anyways, next comes the front of the carry case with the pins I got for it.Just remember I wanted a dedicated Shin Megami Tensei - Devil Survivors device.

They aren't going to change all the sticks in the existing devices, but it looks like Retroid is still going to sell standalone replacement sticks for those that don't mind DIY projects. Its still annoying that Retroid/Moorechip tends to go down this route but its better than nothing.

How often do you finish games on retro-bois? I'm nearly done with Chrono Trigger on my RG35XXSP, and I'm getting this distinct feeling that I might have enjoyed the game a bit more on my main monitor, or my steam deck instead. I genuinely have no idea what's making me feel like this. Maybe the screen size, but that's what appealed about retro handhelds in the first place. The fact that the smaller size just "feels more correct" for way older games like this.

I did my research and finding a widescreen top screen and 4:3 bottom screen that have matching screen sizes for DS is extremely difficult unless you go the custom screen route like the DDS did with its top screen. Basically, I think the Duo and DDS are godilocks devices right now and should absolutely be considered. Even a Thor 2 is probably not going to have this if they keep the 6" screen because the bottom screen would have to be around 5" and the device would get way too bulky like the Ayaneo DS.tl;dr RP Duo or DDS are the way to go right now for dual screen if you care about DS.

Tried out GammaOS Next for the Trimui Brick. Didn't run any games, but preliminary impressions are not very good. Has a very lengthy initial install (and I don't understand why, the OS runs off the SD) which, in my case, froze several times, requiring reboot. The UI is laggy, and all three available themes (XMB, DSi Menu and Minima) are very ugly. And there are a bunch of options which have no functionality on a touchless device like the Brick. Heck, it even installs the Aurora Store. As much as I like GammaOS Next on my RG505, I think it's a poor fit for the Brick. Speaking of RG505, I'd prefer if Gamma updated that version from 1.1 (Nov 2025), instead of wasting time putting the OS on devices which can't use it properly.

Spent 1h trying to configure two bluetooth controllers as input 1 and input 2 on my Retroid Pocket Nova. I fucking hate retroarch. It's working now though, even when I turn off the handheld and turn it back on.Had to put a special folder with controller configuration files int he SD card, so retroarch could remember the saved settings, then I had to configure the controllers, turn on the android disconnect option from input configuration, then noticed they autoconfigured wrongly (controller 1 as input 2 and vice-versa). Then I launched Tekken 3 and the controller 1 dpad moved player 1, but the face buttons of controller 2 did the moves of player 1, and vice-versa. Restarted everything and it works fine. Why is retroarch this much of a cancer? I had absolutely no problem configuring ARMSX2, Dolphin, etc.

Finally got my Retroid Pocket Duo Lite in the mail, and so far this feels like a perfectly fine "budget' DS option...I say budget but with the cost of shipping it totalled up to 160 USD for me. Build quality feels very nice even with the mediocre sticks, which you'd expect given its price tag. The only thing that concerns me is the hinge, its the opposite of the Flip 1 where it felt too delicate. This one feels stiffer which I'm not sure means for its longevity. Also it's worth stressing that yeah, it's not very powerful. I'm using Azahar Plus with custom drivers and the most I've gotten from it are New Super Mario Bros 2 and Etrian Odyssey 4 at 1x, with some stutters for Mario. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has audio cutting out and performance drops at the title screen so there's definitely a performance ceiling until Gamma steps in. Thankfully tons of recomps made for the Thor like Zelda 3 Recomp and PokeDaisy (Gen 3 + romhacks with dual screen support) work well here, so there's still tons of reasons why you may want to get this over an RG DS plus. But definitely wait for a sale, I still think $160 USD ($135 + $25 shipping) is a bit much.
