Two very different games of the same sport but I can tryMario Baseball is all about timing since you dont really have to aim your pitches or hits. Fielding is about decision making you get better at it simply by playing the game.MVP05 you have to actually aim your pitches and the timing on throwing them is more important. You usually want pitchers to be around the edge of the strike zone. In or out of the zone can depend on how you like to pitch but you dont want to give batters good pitches to hit. Hitting in MVP05 is all about the batters eye and recognizing what pitches is coming at you. If you are having trouble with it I recommend sitting on one pitch the opposing pitcher has and not swinging at any other pitches.I think both are excellent but flawed games and would recommend Suoer Mega Baseball 4 instead. Its not retro but it's very easy to play, has dynamic difficulties, and the pitching and hitting are more fun than either mario baseball or mvp05.

High Heat 2004 is the best retro sim baseball game. Its the only one where you actually have to work counts and set up batters. get a slider set from operation sports, and play it. You'll be forced to actually learn how to play.

Learn what pitches are supposed to land in the strike zone and where. A curveball is supposed to drop under the strike zone, a sinker is going to start in the zone and drift down and away. A fastball is effective in the inside corner, a cutter needs to come in at the batters hands.

the MVP games have a setting where the ball gets outlined in different colours to tell you what kind of pitch they threw and whether it's a ball or not, and they also have a mechanic to tell you where a batter is hot and where he's cold in the strike zone so you can try and pitch there. at the end of the day it's instinct; you've either got it or not. at least with baseball games you don't have to worry about your position in the batter box or some peculiarity in your windup that gives away what sort of pitch you're throwing.

Mario is pretty much all timing with a bit of batter positioning to sweet spotMVP and most sim-ish games it's timing and you probably want to aim for certain types of pitches instead of swinging at everything. You can reaction a lot of stuff that gets hung over the plate but on higher difficulties they paint corners more so you have to kinda guess or study tendencies. Remember that baseball is mostly a game of failure unlike most other stuff. While you might succeed 80%+ of the time in other games doing half of that makes you a god in baseball
