You're saying this like it's a recent thing? They've been ballooning since the late 2000s/early 2010s. I remember being able to go to a flea market and buy NES games for like a dollar for 5 or at most 10 dollars a game depending on the game in the early 2000s. AVGN and the subsequent retro gaming scene that seemed to blow up around him online and then the subsequent YouTuber scene like MetalBoomerRocks muh hidden gems shit caused the prices to fucking skyrocket and they've never really stopped despite people predicting the bubble will burst at any time.

yeah i spend like over 200 dollars on sega genesis games a month. Im almost done with my collection as I just need 1 more game to complete my library on games i give a shit about for that system

i like collecting but first edition autism is too much even for me. i just grab what i can find for cheap, pal copies, jap copies, platinum versions, sometimes cases are missing manuals. it's not perfect but it's good enough.

What you are doing is complaining that the rare and valuable items you want cost more than you would prefer because there are many people who also want those rare and valuable items for their collections.If what you want is to play the game there are plenty of ways to do that for a very low cost or nothing at all. If what you want is to personally own a piece of tech that is still in good shape and working 30 or 40 years after production then obviously that's going to have a cost associated with it.

Here's main issue.The economy isn't doing well. So everyone is looking for extra ways to make money.That means everyone is "commodifying" (turning something into a money making business) all their hobbies and interests to potnetially make money off it.This has led to hobbies like retro games, card games, and other children's stuff being turned into financial investments and being invaded by normies who think they can earn quick money.
