It's been nothing but let-downs ever since then. I don't get why they're so firmly stuck against returning to the formulas that worked. They know that's what customers want with how much they make re-selling the classics and remasters over and over again. Even Nintendo makes billions off of keeping the Zelda games classic but with modern resolution and detail while Squeenix bleeds money and hasn't had a good year in a decade.The ony good thing about FF16 is Square's refusal to make medieval Europe to be Black, Indian, and gay "for representation." Other than that, everything from 13 on out has been total crap.

the only good nomura FF. the series proper ended with 9, and nomura has only been puppeting its corpse ever since. he's a much better director when he does his own thing - TWEWY is one of the greatest games of all time - but god damn did he ruin FF.

There are only four good FF games.
FF1, which is a great D&D adaptation
FF4, which was basically the first true JRPG and established every trope the genre would have from then on
FF8, which is actually a pretty shitty game, but deserves credit for trying to create a system to actually evolve JRPGs instead of generic copy and paste low effort garbage
and FF13 which has the best battle system in any JRPG besides Grandia, but eclipses Grandia because the game is well designed and you're actually forced into using the systems in the game instead of ignoring them completely and mashing confirm.
Every other game is a derivative of FF4, a shitty MMO, or a derivative of a shitty MMO

FF12 is fucking trash. It was a game that was beginning to understand the design principles that would later become soulless gacha games: games where idly farming was the entire point. It is optimized for soulless bug people. Say what you will about FFX; at least the story leading up to the Blitzball tournament was a resonant (if not totally coherent) story. The most damning thing about FF12 was how Zodiac Age let players run the game in double time. That's how you know that shit was fucking tedious.
The only credit I can give 12 is some of its character designs. Vaan, Penelo, Fran, and Ashe being the best looking ones in the game.

what retard decided it was a good idea to give mobs millions of hp, and then when they were nearly dead full heal themselves and reduce damage by 66%
in a game that you have gambits that play the game for you
nice boss fight, just set gambits and walk away and in 20 minutes it will be over
or the optimal thing being to NOT learn things so you could spam reroll for level 1 overdrives

I've come around on FF13. It's a cool game - you just need to add some villages to the game and some side areas, and then it's pretty good. Once they decompile FF13 they wil probably add areas from XIII-2 into original XIII to make it better.That said I do think Dissidia and Theathrythm are cool so I don't really agree - and also FF13 is not bad - but yeah
