I've been looking at Supercombo, Mizuumi etc. Is it really worth getting invested and trying to get good in one or two fighting games?

No You don't need to do it to beat the game, you only do it to play the hyper competitive pvp with other sweats, most people you would play with locally would be casuals, let alone in all that time you could be playing other games and KoF specifically expects you to learn 3 characters instead of 1. For fighting games best is just to learn what is universally shared among most of them and call it a day.

Yes. Investing in one game alone gives great payoff once you feel you have a firm grip on the game and the characters you play. You will have immense satisfaction from even matches where you pull out everything you have practised and come out on top. Those matches will(!) come if you stick to a game. It comes down to willpower. Most people never get to the point in a fighting game where these matches become more frequent. Player count matters, but more important than that, choose a game you think looks cool. Yeah some games require discord, fightcade etc. Consider how much effort you are willing to make your game work for you. But don't be too discouraged. Getting matches through social interaction is not that big of an obstacle as many claim. Unless you're a soiboi beta cuck. It's well worth it to invest into a game or two. The highs are really really high, but require some time spent before they come.

I just play them all casually by myself, fighting against CPU opponents in the singleplayer modes, it's pretty fun.

if you enjoy the process of incrementally improving at something challenging by devoting time to getting better at it every day or nearly every day, and if you find a game you like the feel of enough to dedicate yourself to that process for it, and if you're not scared of taking several ass whippings a day for the first few weeks or months before you get good enough to consistently win, then it's worth trying. otherwise, fighting games are not for you and you should play something else. getting good at fighting games is most comparable to getting good at a musical instrument. without consistent practice, honest self-assessment, and the grit to put yourself in situations you are not yet ready to handle over and over until you grow to match the, you will always be ass. it's a significant commitment, some would say too big of one for a plastic toy.

Oh boy another fighting games thread on /vr/. I can't wait to see 300 posts of the two or three people on this board who actually play fighting games arguing with a sea of retards who don't know what they're talking about. Le sigh.

What you do is try lots of different games until you find a character you like who is also top tier in that game, and then you can actually win matches. And then that becomes your favorite game and you defend it on the internet.

You know the resident shit poster is full of it cause literally the only game they claim to play is Third Strike, while claiming to have been a 90s tourney pro.... and Third Strike literally came out in the 00s..... zoomers always conflate the 90s and 00s. >Dude Linkin Park is so 90s 00s >I love 90s cartoons like Naruto and Teen Titans! 00s

No. Ive been in the fgc since the snes days. Plug in the controller. Mash jump heavy or crouch heavy and you can beat 99 percent of players. I learned all the combo moves and dont use em because this works. In fact i so rarely lose, that i never try to win. I just do jump heavy or crouch heavy and if i ran a best of 3 set, i probably win. 9 times out of ten id say.If i tried to go pro, it wouldnt be entertaining any more itd be a job.

If you have or can make at least one actual friend to play them consistently with, yeah. Playing high level matches with your bro while pushing each other to get better is absolute kino.Otherwise, the scene has been almost completely colonised by trannies. It is not worth either the smell or the histrionics. Boomergames have significantly less trannies though.

its not. some times its fun but usually its not depending on what goals you have. I have spend close to 10 years on ggpo/fightcade and local tournaments and most of the time I didnt have a good time. first of all its the human element, you are forced to interact with your community and other people and with that comes drama and other retarded shit. online its pretty similiar, a lot of players have really fragile egos and they cant handle a loss so you need to eat shit there as well. if you are mentally ill (like I am) you will end up hating yourself once you want to reach a certain level. I used to get angry because I lost 1 match out of 50 because I didnt play perfectly, this kind of behaviour is not healthy but is not unusual. the most fun I had was the early stages of incremental progression or certain sub-categories like doingly exclusively combos in pmode.
