I have a question.
What DOOM source port do I use? Which multiplayer source port is the most active? Same thing with Quake. Which source port do I use, and again, which multiplayer source port is the most active? And why the fuck are there so many? Why does all of this have to be so complicated? Why can't we just use the original versions and keep playing that? I just want to play my 90s FPS kino thank you.

I like Odamex for mp. Not the most active but it has good balance between vanilla feel and smooth multiplayer even on high pings. You probably need to join their discord so you can ping people for games.Zandronum always felt too messy like gzdoom.

I use Helion. It's has great performance,even with the worst slaughterslop,and best of all,it's not a rebranded GZDoom maintained by troons.

Depends on what you want out of a sourceport. I personally use Nugget Doom unless a WAD needs GZDoom features

Zandronum. Comes with the Doomseeker server browser on Windows too

Lots of different people want different things out of a sourceport

The original versions have a lot of limitations which prevents map creators from doing what they want. Plus the OG doom is 200p and capped at 35 FPS. If you want the original experience, use the Chocolate Doom sourceport

Nugget Doom is best for just basic Doom and most of the map packs people make. Has a number of nice QOL options if you want them (but you can leave them off, down to making the game still behave like the original .exe even for non-vanilla content).
For advanced mods and stuff, there's GzDoom/UzDoom. UzDoom is supposed to have replaced GzDoom basically (because of a bunch of really retarded shit), but there's still not much meaningful difference between the ports yet.The only significant mod I know of which I think requires UzDoom over GzDoom at this point is Hideous Destructor, but while that one's really cool, it's also not for everyone. (Think if you mixed Doom with an milsim autism tactical shooter with absurd attention to detail, so you have ballistic calculations, wound management, and manually refilling magazines, but still also cyborg demons from hell and magic).
