Just fucking play it.
If you don't like it, try 64.
If you don't like it, try getting really really drunk.

Play SNES, then 64, then Adventures, then Assault and ignore all the rest. Starfox 2 and everything else is just fanfiction.

Play 64, the snes game is cool but even as a fan of the series for over 30 years the graphics are nauseating. Super fucking impressive for the time but man it can be a struggle to play it. Still a really fun game and you should play it but if you don't like 64 you probably wont like the rest if the series. Maybe dinosaur planet that hardly counts and is closer to zelda than star fox.

In the '90s, console wars were just fighting for what your mom bought you. It's not something to romanticize. Retro games are free.

What we really need is the first two Star Fox games with the gamespeed decoupled from the framerate. Also, what did they do to their legs.... Now it looks like only Slippy is the member with normal feet.

Just play Starfox 64, but you need to play it on a CRT TV or emulator with a real N64 controller.

I love the new artstyle. Its the perfect modernization of the puppet promo pics. Zero and 643D were both 3rd party games so it makes sense that a they just copied the GameCube artstyle. A new first party project with a big power jump means they can finally replicate the Yamazaki designs like they always intended.

I loved Star Fox and Star Wars so much, that I wrote a Star Fox Star Wars crossover fanfiction for school when I was 9 years old, lmao
It was basically A New Hope but with Star Fox characters

The SNES original is pretty short to just play through once, so why not? Yeah, it doesn't hold up the best, but it's still fun enough, and if you're trying to "get into" a series as a form of artistic appreciation, you should start with the original.

Why was Assault so hated, or was it ignored? Watching a playthrough now and it looks pretty good.

I could never get into the original. I tried, I've always tried, but it feels so goddamn sluggish to play because it was doing shit the SNES was not built to handle
>inb4 play it with the 30/60 fps mods
I did eventually get around to doing that, it definitely controls better, but at the same time I could just be playing 64 and getting a way better experience. 64 is just timeless in a way the original isn't.

Star Fox 64 is the usual entry point/high point of the series.
You can also try the original, if you're the type to appreciate what it could accomplish on the SNES. Star Fox 2 was unreleased, but is worth checking out for some of its concepts.
If you're interested in plot, then the SNES continuity also had a Nintendo Power comic like A Link To The Past, Super Mario Adventures, etc. 64 rebooted the continuity which lasted until Command for the DS (which is generally considered not good).

I always heard back in the day that the reason the composer of the SNES game basically never did an OST again was because Nintendo wouldn't let him own the rights to his music, but I don't know how true that is.
