Probably not, Lucario looks cooler and he appeared in Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue first

It'd certainly be more loved than it is today. But it'd be significantly worse

No, it's an abomination of design.

>mega evolution is pure electric Why is Game Freak such an ass when it comes to Electric type Pokemon? Do they really have a stick in their ass over the idea of Electric type Pokemon not being boring to use outside of pikashit?

Would it get a prevo in place of Lucario?

There's something about Zeraora's design that makes it fail compared to Lucario or Zoroark but I can't quite explain what it is

idk, i think being the hero in the first guzzlord anime arc helped it a lot

It'd be bigger than Lucario. Never understood the whole Lucario craze anyway, it's ugly as fuck. I feel the same way about Renamon.

>Does it get the same critical acclaim as lucario? Only if it is also treated the same as Lucario, like having dual types, being easily accessible in game, is breedable for comp and shiny hunting (perhaps with a cute pre-evo for merch), is playable in Smash, etc.

Not sure it'd be quite as popular, part of Lucario's cool factor was that it was a fighting type with Ki Blast/Hadoken type moves, which was novel at the time. I can't see Zeraora having the same appeal, the whole marketing around it would be fundamentally different.

Zeraora has been around for nearly 10 years anon, it's hardly current

I don't think so cause at the end of the day the pokemon is still what it is. Lucario was this aura sensing martial arts fighting pokemon. It shoots aura spheres as his signature move. These attributes also made it a good fit for smash where it has become a main stay since it's introduction. The fighting typing added a lot to what made it cool and how it acts.

I was expecting this thread to have more coomer posts. Seems like even the furries don't care enough to shit up a thread about this guy.

No, but it gets a movie and ends up like zoroark

Lucario’s success stemmed from his movie; he was presented as an individual character rather than just a species—much like Mewtwo. In contrast, Zeraora was portrayed merely as a bipedal animal in its film, filling the classic role of an unusual pet adopted by a little girl. Ironically, despite being a Legendary (or Mythical—I’ve never really understood the distinction), Zeraora came across more like a cat with electric powers; it lacked the mystical aura of Lugia—as the guardian of the sea—or Giratina—as an extradimensional entity. It would have been more memorable had it been depicted as a demigod—much like Maui might have been in a hypothetical Alola-based film.

Zera always reminded me of Boruto in ways i can't describe but i think thats why he's a flop compared to the other anthros.

I don't know why anyone is acting like it wouldn't be the case. If you replaced Lucario with Zera then everything plays exactly the same but with this guy instead of a blue dog. People vastly understate just how hard GF tried to force Lucario in Gen 4. >movie back in Gen 3 so it was one of the only Gen 4 Pokemon people had any exposure to for a while >was the ULTIMATE and FINAL rank in PMD1, because he was just the coolest fucking guy who's ever lived and you even get a statue of him on your lawn to bask in his glory >was the only Pokemon you could use in any D/P demos >got a unique typing, great stats (for the time) and a signature move >a required part of the DP storyline is doing double battles with the Lucario guy from the Lucario movie for an hour who ends his segment by giving you a baby Lucario egg so you can use your own Lucario, which you probably needed to hatch to finish the Sinnoh dex (i think) >got in fucking Smash Bros despite his game not even being out when Brawl was in development Any, and I mean any fucking Pokemon who got the viciously aggressive shilling campaign Lucario did would become a series mainstay because they genuinely dumped millions of dollars into making sure a Pokemon fan in 2005 couldn't go 10 minutes without seeing or hearing something Lucario related, most of this board is underage so you weren't even conscious for it, but I was there and shit was annoying. The only reason Zera isn't more popular now is because he's directly competing with Lucario and all the Lucario-likes that have been introduced since Lucario debuted, it's been going on so long now that Lucario-coded shonen bait Pokemon has become its own sub design archetype in Pokemon.

The last time Gamefreak asked America what to change they suggested making the pokemon less cute and replacing Pikachu with a busty tiger lady.

I think that despite what some say, most of those bipedal pokemon like Lucario feel like they're at least trying to be beasts. That's something bugging me about Zeraora's design, more than the others it looks like a guy wearing some animal stuff instead of the reverse.

There’s more to Lucario than just being furfag bait despite what gooners on /vp/ will have you believe. The “stoic aura warrior” aspect is a big part of the appeal and rather unique within Pokemon, Zeraora doesn’t have anything similar going for it.

Not unless you make it a later stage that's part of an evolutionary line. The thing is barely accessible and smells too strongly of 'special snowflake', make it easily obtainable final evolution from a cute electric cat line and it'd be far more popular.
