Those games were my first and just discovered older games recently and like older mons and their exclusives so I'm kinda sad. Revisiting old games to make a collection of all the original games legendaries, NPC trades, N's pokemon, and so on, I've come to realize that Diamond and Pearl have quite possibly the most expansive obtainable pokemon list of any gen even though they have a bad reputation for limited pokemon available during the main game. Assuming you have a DS lite and all the GBA games to insert into the GBA slot for their wild encounters you can get almost a full Nat Dex natively in Sinnoh, only missing legendaries, starters, and Tangela/Tropius. Gives me a newfound appreciation for Diamond and Pearl. Admittedly that's a high barrier nowadays but back when they were new that's high quality

I have been steadily moving my living dex upwards as I complete each game. I've completed >VC Yellow >VC Crystal >LeafGreen >Sapphire >Emerald >Platinum >HeartGold And I'm finishing up Black now. Just gotta RNG the Swords of Justice, Kyurem, and Tornadus, then RNG perfect IVs for Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, and Victini. I can get Thundurus from Dream Radar, and use it to RNG Landorus in Black. Then it's off to Black 2, and from there completing the Unova dex, then the loooooooooong process of that awful Poke Transfer minigame and touch trading to Black 2 so I can get natdex completion in both games. Then off to gen 6.

Playing through XD so I can have a shadow ralts to ribbon master so I can have a pokemon that can get every ribbon currently available and that is likely to get every one going forward. The question is: do I evolve it into gardevoir or gallade? I like them both and while there is a novelty in having newer Pokemon with the national ribbon gardevoir is just kinds of generally better and I could get used out of it in champions

Gonna finish X today. All I have left is a handful of easy but time consuming ribbons in OR, the Battle Maison, then catching and getting ribbons in US/UM. Debating if I want to SOS all the alolan forms, the ones I can't mark hunt in SV at a later point, or just say fuck it and be happy with what I have. Really reaching end game here. Probably going to take a break after I get everything in Home, eventually resort my boxes, then work on getting everyone their SwSh, PLA, and SV ribbons. Done two ribbon master run throughs in BDSP before and I keep putting it off every time I get there. Such an ugly, slow game.

This entire scenario is the perfect demonstration of the importance of physical media. Gens 3-5 will forever retain their migration capabilities because it's all done on the physical hardware. Got the game? Then you can still do it. Gen 6-8 transfers are gone forever because it's all based on a server somewhere. And don't think Gen 8-whenever they replace Home transfers won't eventually get their transferring shut down as well.
