Alola is a great region and there were a lot of memorable and great characters and Pokémon. The story was fun and a nice change of pace.
The gen 7 games were the last "true" Pokémon games that captured the original essence of what Pokémon was about (Legends Arceus came pretty close).

Not a hot take, just complete and accurate facts and truth.

gen 7 was worse than everything that came before, but good in it's own right. They're also perfect games if you still want some modern Pokemon and mega evolutions without going into absolutely soulless territory that is gen 8 and beyond

You'd be 1000% correct if Rotom was never created and they didn't have the Festival Plaza

I love Ultra Beasts and hope they make more. I was 23 when SM came out so not nolstalgia.

Actually…I’d say…it’s pretty good, great even. Incredible, perhaps.
Only if we’re talking about base SM however, USUM were super disappointing.

I mostly agree, but replaying it is a pain in the ass with all the unnecessary dialogue. Also, Totems are the best bosses in the franchise

i don't like gen 7 because the game criticizes (you) for catching pokemon that you never use, and then gives you like a funny idyllic island to put them to work on a plantation, presumably to alleviate this criticism. but of course the other games don't have it, so the implication is that you really are just putting all these other pokemon on ice

XY had cool mega evolutions. SM had lame ass Z moves. XY had super training. SM had... nothing. XY had PSS (Rest in peace). SM had festival plaza (Rest in piss). XY had an art style that was consistent with the generations before it. SM leaned more into stylization and simpler designs. Gen 6 had great side games like Pokken and Super MD. Gen 7 had a worse KANNTTOOO and it wasn't even on the its generation of hardware, so it doesn't count. I like very few Pokemon from gen 7, and the regional forms. That's it. XY was a better game overall, and the last Pokemon game I ever played. (no, I won't talk about ORAS. I fucking hate that shit because it ruins a good sprite based generation.)

Gen5~7 is way better than what came before, but gen7 was already showing signs of them wanting to do dexit with there not being a national dex and lgpe not having anything but kanto mons as well as having some issues with the engine.

I like a lot of the ideas and design choices of Gen 7. I especially really like the Pokedex, I think there are some great designs and very few misses. I like the switch ups to the formula, and that a lot of the fights actually pose some challenge. But holy shit, the pacing and the constant dialog just drag it down and make it nearly unplayable.
>b-but the story is good!
It's not bad, but most of the cutscenes barely have anything to do with the story. It's just npcs like Hau constantly stopping you to yap about nothing. And good God, it's all so slow. All the little animations, the constant fades to black, it's like molasses. By the time you get to the parts of the story that might have actually been interesting, you are just exhausted from all the inane cutscenes that you just want to get it over with.If not for that, they might be among the best Pokemon games, but unfortunately all of the good stuff is overshadowed by the fact that the game plays a boring visual novel half the time.

Gen 7 felt too small to be its own game. Alola feels like the kind of region they'd add as a third-game post game area. I blame Alola being small with claustrophobic routes for the awful Wild area implementation in SwSh (which are still by far the worst games)It would have been better on switch if given more development time. As it stands, gen 7 is mediocre and is carried by the human characters. USUM were also so fucking bad as sequel/third games/physical DLC or whatever that I'd honestly think more highly of gen 7 if they were never released. I truly did enjoy X and Y, and OR AS, they showed great potential on 3DS, Sun and Moon didn't really continue that, in my opinion

Gen 7 was the last game I bought, and the first game I skipped.
The fact that what came after was infected diarrhea doesn't make this fat log not shit.

Alola was great, but we have to take it for what is: a vacation themed adventure. It's purposely softer, ore whimsical, and focused on fun than deep lore.As someone who's lived on islands, I found it pretty on point.

I find that it's after Gen 7 that it gets horrible.
