I’m sick of this franchise putting out lazy, boring, ugly slop. However, I’m also aware that nothing will change anytime soon since there are so many zombie buyers.
What Pokémon or similar games would you recommend right now to someone who just wants to enjoy this stuff again?

Pokemon is bassically just the Sonic franchise except even less mentally syable and debatably having more bad games.
If Scarlet & Violet were made by Sonic Team, you know EVERYONE would just say it's trash with ZERO defence.

Nothing is going to match Pokemon for that scratch, I'm afraid. Megaten and Digimon are the closest you'll get for that monster raising itch though.

the digimon story games are good, though the older ones are grindy. this includes digimon world ds, digimon world dawn, and digimon world dusk. despite having world in the english titles, these are digimon story games. try the world games if you want more tamagotchi-like raising.
I played dragon quest monsters the dark prince recently, and that was pretty good too.

Stop bitching and acting like it's the end of the world and just play SMT, DIgimon, or rom hacks. Pokemon Unbound was particularly good.
