I belive that corporate bootlicking is an important part of japanese culture
Japan was the only Asian country that didn't get colonised or fell under western influnce like India or Chinda did which where historically more advanced and wealthier than japan which was just an unimportant island to the east at the time because it was the only country that copied Europeans and modernised
They specifically hired prussian military advisors to modernise their military and went through massive efforts to westernies their country and successfully pushed back against russian expansion in Asia
When WW 2 happend and the country was fucked unemployment was at an ath and people where desperate to bring some normalcy back into their lifes and fix the country
So the few companies that existed offered life time employment at the time if the wagie didn't quit or complain about working 16h shifts and everything went back to some level of normalcy
Then in 70 and 80 their economy really pushed into gear with tech companies producing high quality chips and japans gdp almost eclised the US
at the time japan was still occupied Okinawa was under us jurisdiction and their foreign policy was all about making America happy since they gave them massive credits to rebuild their country
But when japan became a tech leader all of a sudden they had actuall some sort of political power chips where being used more and more by the military for heat seeking missiles and whatnot and japan produced the most advanced semi conductors at the time and could effect global power by choosing who to sell them
its when corporate bootlicking reached its ath since companies like sony produced these chips and massively contributed to Japanes sovereignty
nowadays they are just a shit game studio but back in the day where an titan

I always assumed that it was just because Japanese culture has a nightmare combination of conformism, materialism, and respect for hierarchy.

A lot of modern Japan makes sense when you take in consideration that samurais came from Mongolia and the Yamato court was aware that they were backward so they sent young nobles to study in China and bring civilization. Nothing changed
