Getting and staying sober is /fit/ right? I’ve been trolling this AA meeting IRL by countering the groupthink shit the old heads talk about and agree amongst each other every single day. I’ve been sober 5 years and I’m sure these oldfags think I’m going to relapse any day now. I go about twice a month to do this.
>hurr durr I micromanaged all my coworkers and children while wasted and drinking on the job and now I turn it over to God and don’t try to run the whole show
>My children still won’t talk to me but that’s ok because I told them I was sorry and now it’s on them
>You must agree that you tried to run the whole show or you’ll never be sober
>You have to get sober my way

That's literally how it works. The punishment for being an edge lord is that you have to live as an edge lord and look at the world through the lens of an edge lord.

No, it's a baseline for being a functional adult. I am happy you managed to get your shit together, but don't expect any further praise for being sober, this is how normal people are all the time. Now shut the fuck up about it and actually do something above the baseline that's brag worthy.

M8 a lot of ego in alcoholics. The aspect of surrender is important to accept at the end of the day we are powerless over people, places and things (what often drove us to drink). At the end of the day all we can control is ourselves, and should be touch booze again, even that's not possible. I'm glad you're sober but the other people you are mocking are trying to achieve what's called emotional sobriety - they don't want the addict brain to steer them as it has done before.
Peace be with you brother

Today I relapsed on alcohol. 5 months sober prior. What triggered me was discovering photos of my dead mother. Last week, it was meth. Method is weird, unlike ADHD medication it makes me dysphoric which wants me to take more and more... Crazy stuff. Anyway, love you all.

AA is super gay but there's a value to hearing other people talk about how bad they fucked up their own lives with drinking, helps you be more honest with yourself about the situation you created for yourself.
Im five years sober and never twelve stepped and only did meetings while I was still fucking up constantly but I did get value out of the meetings

i been sober 5 years but i dont need to bring it up every 5 minutes like addictfagsAA and recovery groups are good for the first year but after that focus on living a productive fulfilling life and fix the reasons you drank in the first place, like your inability to tolerate discomfort, your memorized emotional patterns, are your lack of coping skills

What's the big deal? Just don't drink, or do drugs. I mean, I do both sometimes, but pretty much don't most of the time because I have stuff to do. I hardly drink because I have to drive or be ready to drive at any moment. If you can't stop yourself drinking and driving then I guess you should probably take meds like naltrexone because no amount of AA cope is going to help you if you can't even follow basic safety procedures.

In my experience, AA and alike groups have been helpful to change my outlook on life. I've found abstinence wasn't enough to stop me from doing drugs. Once I started working the 12 steps (doing step 8 with sponsor today), that's when I started generally feeling better without substances.
Once again, this is myself talking about me. People will have different views on the matter.

Sober over a year now. For me, the hardest thing about not drinking is the FOMO. It's as though everyone else is out having a great time but I'm not allowed to any more. That makes it very hard especially in that first year.
What helped me let go is understanding that, actually, drinking wasn't that much fun anyway. It's a front loaded activity. All the fun is had in the anticipation and the first few drinks. Everything after that is an embarrassing, expensive, hangover riddled mess.
Still have to find a way to blow off steam. The women in my life are the worst for getting on at me about my drinking (which was never more than a Friday night session with the occasional all nighter with the lads)... But they're happy to fucking sit in the house all day every day watching shit television. They don't understand that, as a man, I need some excitement and adventure in my life.
I guess I'm supposed to just go to work, come home, behave myself, rinse and repeat. At which point I ask myself 'what's the fucking point?'.I work out, I run, I eat very healthy... Would drinking be that bad? But then I remind myself that it's actually not that much fun. All those brutal hangovers, all those wasted opportunities. It all started out with a couple of beers. Then I realise I'm better off without it. Still need to find something else though. This sober life is intolerable really. It's just so fucking boring.

Yeah I cant go to AA and be honest because the truth is fucking dark man. I have been sober 5 years and my life is worse than it ever was when I was an alcoholic. When I quit drinking I became reclusive and I have not found a way to have a social life without drinking. You hear so many people at AA talk about how great their life is once they get sober and its such a fucking lie. At least if the source of your drinking is social anxiety. And if you never had social anxiety I dont understand how you became an alcoholic in the first place you are just retarded.

I tried to quit and stayed sober for a while. Eventually went back to drinking but had a bunch of rules and shit to be functional and whatnot. It was misserable and nothing good happened.I decided to say fuck it and doubled down on being a drunk retard, and making up for it with actual action in staying in good shape, studying a lot, having a ton of activities and actual productive things, all the while getting drunk as fuck.I'm now married with a good job and a career I love. I don't think about getting drunk too much anymore. I do it sometimes but I don't crave it like when I was trying to quit. It does cost a lot of money and gets in the way of fitness, but I'm still doing good in both areas.
So, my two cents on this is, stop being ashamed of being a drunk asshole. Double down on it. Lose all shame. And do everything in your power to get away with it.

Anon08/25/26, 05:11No.77478513
Alcohol never helped anyone deal with any problem. What does sitting around being a drunk idiot spouting off nonsense and pissing people off have to do with dealing with an issue you couldn’t handle when you were actually functional? Ignoring problems makes them worse they don’t go away.

My thoughts on AA as a former heavy alcoholic who went to 5 meetings at different places during the absolute height of my alcoholism (wake up and vomit, down a beer, get dressed and drink a beer on the way to work etc.).
I dont want to shit on AA because it clearly has helped lots of people but...
In my experience the whole thing was one massive pity party. I understand people have demons and shit they want to get off their chest but after those meetings I wanted to drink more than before I attended.
If any of you anons are struggling I dont want to discourage you from trying, it might work for you, but just know ultimately it's up to you and your desire to stop.If I had to give two musts for quitting it would be taking magnesium and finding a good reason to quit drinking.
In my case I quit my toxic job and went to college and needed to get off the sauce to be successful.

I went to uni and discovered that weed and psychedelics were cheaper, lasted longer, and had more of a cerebral kind of effect than alcohol. Pretty much never drank again.I haven't taken a psychedelic or weed for about 6 months now, and I still think about it occasionally, but I'm never really tempted. Feels better to be free. Sure, I might feel great and do a lot of introspection on my drugs of choice, but that's just a shortcut... I'm happy going at the pace I'm going at right now, and it feels so freeing to say that.I'm likelier to join the Astrum Argentum than Alcoholics Anonymous or the Automobile Association.

When I don't drink I wake up with nerve irritation and I'm in pain all day. It only really takes a beer or two and it all goes away and I usually don't drink any more than up to 3 or 4. I just don't know what else to do. I wonder if the alcohol is causing the pain even though I don't drink a lot (just frequently) or if it's really just a bad but effective crutch to numb the pain.

AA is useless if you don't live in a very big city because it's literally just gonna be like 3 or 4 people there. I guess if you are completely friendless it helps a little but they're gonna be older dudes so if you're a millenial you might not have much in common with them besides alcoholism lol. They will just tell you how bad alcohol is (and was for them) but you already know that, don't you? And BTW a lot of people are court ordered to go to AA. But do whatever you want.

Sober 14 years. Haven't been to AA regularly after the first two years of trying to start quitting, which was kicked of by a month in rehab. For some AA is a lifelong requirement. You can try to troll them like some plebbit neck beard pseud but you are a bit of a retard for trying. Muh sCiEnCe Jews have been trying for decades since they can't sell anything to them - AA is a monolith and neither you nor the Jews are going to materially change that

Zoom meetings sometimes get people running a script in their browser to spam nigger in the chat or eggplant+water emojis or head+pistol emojis. Normies get so butthurt over it.one Karen was bent on someone else in the group figuring out where the spammer worked and getting them fired. She was unaware of the impossibility of that Kek.

Been sober 4 months but had a couple oxys and benzo spread over four days. Wasn't really using them recreationally, just because I needed a break from constant anxiety for a couple of days.
There are things I like about being sober like not having to deal with hangovers but I think about killing myself pretty much any moment I'm not at least 80% occupied with something.
AA/NA will keep saying that it gets better but this isn't a result of my brain and body recalibrating to normal, this is my normal and how I was before I ever drank anything or took any drugs. It's why I got hooked on shit in the first place ffs.
I really don't like this one size fits all approach 12 step has.

Sober September going strong. Haven't had a sip since August. I was spending $10-20/day on beer and it was such a dumb afternoon/evening habit. Put on 20 pounds this year from all the beer.

Humans, in general, have an addictive nature to them. Those who get addicted to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and sex are the easiest to get addicted to Jesus and His teachings.
I struggled with every vice there is, but when I sought Jesus, my life changed forever. I know God forgives me for my past sins, and I put my faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice.
My parents died, my job was taken from me, my wife no longer even looks at me, and everything I do for this world fails, but my faith in Jesus grows more and more each day, because I was not made to please the dead here on earth, but the living God. He has never left me or forsaken me.
There is a reason Temperance is considered a moral virtue; you can still drink, but do so in times of joy, not to drown your sorrows. I'm waiting on those joyous times right now, friend.

probably not the best but I switched from alcohol to kratom powder (not concentrate or 7oh that shit will kill you). Used to go for half a litre of vodka every evening for about 2 years. And now I can just drink socially and I don't even have the urge to find more drinks and drink infinitely. Quitting kratom also has its difficulties, but at least it's costing me less than a dollar per day (don't exceed 10g per day) and unlike alcohol I've been able to go off of it for a month and a half with relative success. There was a marital lawyer on fit a few months back asking how to quit kratom and he was taking 50g a day. Absolutely insane. Hope he made it because he claimed to have a trip to france that should have happened in June if I recall. Realistically kratom doesn't really push you to increase the dosage every time because it's a partial agonist. That anon just wanted to chase the first highs that he got.

I used to get blackout drunk on at least 1 bottle of vodka + beer every Friday and Saturday but never drank during the week. Like 8 weeks ago I stopped getting shitfaced at the weekend but now I drink a little bit almost every day. I'm now wasted after 3 or 4 beers and rarely drink more than that but I feel like much more of an alcoholic than before.

Something just dawned on me. I never really felt bored or under-stimulated until I started drinking. Before that, I was always able to keep myself occupied and entertained with little effort. I have lots of projects to work on. It’s not because of my natural (dopamine) baseline that I feel the need to drink to keep from getting bored, but because I’ve raised my threshold so high that I only find most things stimulating again once I start drinking. One of my friends, who is a heavy alcoholic, said exactly the same thing a few years ago, and I just remembered it and made that connection. He always said that he was bored, and nothing was fun for him anymore, and that he drank to make certain things more enjoyable. I don’t drink because I’m bored. I’m bored because I drink.

I've been sober for 2 years now and I was able to quit out of pure contrarianism. My doctor was a woman and she started bitching at me when I told her how often I drank and I didn't want to take shit from a woman so my misogynistic anger made me quit.

I've done it all. The pills and the shot, CBT, rehab, AA, sober living, group and solo therapies, all of it, for decades. Some seemed to help for a while but I always went back.
The only thing that worked was Jesus. Not go to church and still feed your evil desires the rest of the time. We all sin, but war with it, with Christ's strength. Daily, consistent obedience. It's usually not some grand thing.
But I don't drink and I have peace like a river and a deep joy and certainty. I don't like people and now I feel concern and love for others.
Bitter and lost people will revile this, but I want you to know it is the truth. Everything that is not God will let you down in the end. Everything.

I go on and off on addictions (Adderall, caffeine when I was a teen, alcohol, and now weed), but I also been slowing down on the goynip since it's not worth the brain fog unless I'm going to bed.The only cure is just confronting the reason but it's not something you can just give people advice for, it's always complicated with the real addicts.
