I'm not poor but I've started buying tofu instead of meat because it's cheap and it lasts like 2 months in the fridge. whenever something trashy like ramen or instant pasta needs some protein I just dice up a chunk of tofu and throw it in.

What's the point of larping being poor, you just need to wait a few years to get the real experience.

Earlier this week, I finally made what I think is a winner in terms of "bachelor chow"
I browned some ground turkey in a wok, added some spices to it. Dumped a bunch of rice cooked in chicken bullion, and emptied a couple small bags of frozen veggies (one with carrot, green beans, corn, and peas. The other with larger chunks of carrot, broccoli, and cauliflower). If I remember rightly, I used olive oil, onion powder, jar garlic, chili powder, Italian seasoning, cayenne pepper, soy sauce, and eventually some salt and pepper.I didn't get a picture of it in the wok, and I'm too lazy to snap a pic of the leftovers, but believe me, it's good. And with all those vegetables and lean meat, it's probably a decently healthy meal. (ignore the fact that half of it is white rice by weight)Next time though, I think I'm going to double the meat, use ground chicken instead, and let the vegetables fully thaw first. I think dumping them in cold tripled the cook time.My goal is to make the laziest easy slop meal that I can have at the ready to make by just stocking the right stuff in my freezer, and setting it out to thaw before work one day.

I cooked Chinese takeout-style curry fuzhu yesterday. We have so, so much fuzhu.
Anyway, 2lbs of dry fuzhu costs $9 and becomes 5-6lbs after rehydrating. 3 servings costs 48¢
Onions. 50¢/lb. ⅔/lb = 34¢
Long mustard. $2/lb. ⅔/lb = $1.33
Ginger. Free if you're not a retard. A couple cents if you are
Frying oil. $8/gallon. 4¢/spoonful
Totole. $4 for the 8oz of the Knorr version. 6¢/spoonful
Mushroom seasoning powder. $11/500g pouch. 10¢
Curry powder. Pyramide sells a 4oz sachet for $2. 18¢
Sesame oil. Haru-Haru routinely goes on sale $12/56oz. 18¢.
Cornstarch. $4/lb. Negligible quantity. Like 1-2¢?
Rice to eat it with. $25 for a 50lb sack of Lucky brand. 33¢Total spend if you have literally nothing on hand: $77.50
Total cost for a meal for three: $3.06 ($1.02 for a single person).
Side dishes were had, sure, but they were cheap as shit. Italian eggplants were $1/each regardless of size so I cooked up eggplant in chilli sauce ($2.55 for the dish, 85¢ per 3 person meal) and a simple carrot salad ($1 for the dish, which was enough for the meal plus one serving remaining).
How much did your utter monstrosity actually cost? Our meal cost $4.66 for the three of us, $1.56 per person. Was yours cheaper?
