I’m quite certain most “tastelets” would go wild for basically a savoury filled doughnut with mayonnaise and other shit on top so not sure what your point is here

I don't know if this has cumulatively filtered too many people because child-minded picky eaters have probably never even heard of takoyaki. It's typically offered at sushi places and other asian-style restaurants that they would never set foot in. I think if you listed the ingredients out then they would refuse to even try it so I agree that it would 100% filter them if they ever had the opportunity. And that's a shame because I fucking love takoyaki and I've seen places take it off the menu because of a lack of demand.

The texture of the octopus is tough and chewy compared to the rest of it, but I really enjoy takoyaki when it's served hot and fresh. :)
I haven't had it in a long while but seeing OP's image makes me want some now.

There's a lot and it's becoming more common to be a picky eater and not eat normal things like mushrooms.

A slice of 'le 'sars is a great way to filter those that taste with their wallets instead of their tongues - the most obnoxious kind of tastelet

Japanese is the only ethnic food I've tried that consistently held up, though their attempts at copying Euro desserts are awful.

Onions filter modern tastelets. I don't know why picky eating had become so acceptable but when I was a kid in the 90s not eating onions meant you were a subhuman extremely picky eater. I learned to eat and love onions in my late teens and 20s because I was sick of being a subhuman who refused to eat onions. Onions are in so many dishes from cuisines all over the world that refusing to eat them cucks you out of sooooooo much food.

In the same vein. I've loved it since I was a kid and ordered some for a girlfriend once and she was disgusted and wouldn't even try it. Dumped that bitch.

browns only say this because they are too stupid to understand what table salt is and how to use it. I'm honestly surprised they can use cutlery.
whenever they complain about "seasoning" its because the food isn't salty enough

I love eating octopus, but takoyaki is 90% batter, 9% grease, and 1% octopus. I just don't see the value.

I absolutely love this stuff, especially with a nice cold beer. I'm always the only one at the table eating it though as pretty much everyone is put off by the thought of eating raw octopus.

Takoyaki is kind of just clam cakes but with octopus instead. I guess that doesn't mean much for most of the country, but I think the average New Englander would probably like it if you put it in front of them.

Just mix canned tuna in with rice. Splash on some lime/lemon juice and some hot sauce is you feel so inclined.

I got to eat takoyaki in Japan and it's great. I don't care much about the taste of the octopus itself, to me it tasted like another sea food, maybe more meaty. For me it was the batter.Since octopus is hard to get anyway, what would you recommend as alternative? I would like to cook it myself at home and I know anon

I mean... it's ok, it's good. I don't know if it's God tier. I've had a dozen times, in Japan too. It's not really a contentious food
