Did you know you're not supposed to let salt crystals rest at the bottom of your stainless pot? I didn't know until yesterday, either. Brand new obscenely expensive Demeyere pot, boiled 1 batch of noodles in it, this is how it looked after. I've been dumping salt into cold water all my life, in cheap supermarket pots, never had an issue. Maybe a random spot here or there, but never something like this. I managed to clean it up, but not a great first impression for a supposed premium brand.

Yeah I fucked up a pot like this my first time using it. Feels bad, but it doesn't really matter. It doesn't affect the usability at all, it's just visual. Which obviously still sucks with a new pan, you want it to look nice, but you'll get over it.

I’ve been trying to keep my freaking roommates from doing shit like this. It’ll be fine, i just always throw the salt in once the water is boiling

you know enameled cast iron exists and is better than stainless if you're using it for pot purposes. the only time stainless wins in that use case is if you have to make gallons of something

Back in 2014 an activist hedge fund wanted to take over the parent company of Olive Garden It had a 300 page report of complaints One was that Olive Garden did not salt its pasta water>Among a laundry list of complaints about food quality and operations, Starboard revealed that Olive Garden had stopped putting salt in its pasta water because doing so could damage the pots and void their manufacturer warranties.

>Did you know you're not supposed to let salt crystals rest at the bottom of your stainless pot? I've never heard of this being a problem before. The salt always dissolves within a minute or two anyway. That is SERIOUS SHIT TIER "stainless". If the brand is actually supposed to be "premium" I would say you got scammed with a fake. I've seen so-called stainless steel parts rust before (not cooking pots though) but the whole point of stainless steel is that it shouldn't rust unless it is severely abused.

>buys clad pot for boiling water for pasta My guy just buy a cheap ass stamped aluminum pot from literally any professional cookware emporium. They don't like acids but they work great boiling things like stock n shit.

huh i got some weird brown spots like those after i boiled pecans once, in a cheapo saucepan. didn't know what caused it but over the following weeks i also boiled walnuts and almonds and more spots appeared both times. assumed it was because of something in the nuts. i didn't salt them or the water btw. they might not be the same though, i'll have to take a look at them again when i get back home

My pans are all third generation stainless steel (my grandmother bought them, my mother was using them and now I am). I've never seen this happen. Yeah sometimes with pasta water you get tiny spots, but you just rub it with the green side of the sponge and it's gone.

It's ok if you have a stainless steel pan or sauteuse that is made from autistic steel (not sic, but look it up). Chemically very resistant, but less hard than chinesium mystery steel.

PSA before you go scratching at it with strong abrasives, some balled up aluminium foil dipped in vinegar rubs them right off.
