The sweetness gives a certain taste that counteracts the saltiness and umami so it tastes more complete. It's complex but simple. The kind of thing that a kid will like and an adult will enjoy.

americans love corn syrup and processed carbs, they run to it like chickens. that is why every sandwich made in a restaurant is at least 50% bread. that is why a pizzeria will offer breadsticks, monkey bread, and cookies with your pizza and pretend it's a complete meal. that is why almost everyone you see has a belly that sticks out past their junk.and they will defend it fiercely. if you speak ill of their eating habits, they will call you names, they will decry your masculinity, they will insist you're picking on them for a different reason, like their race, culture, or gender. we are in the midst of a fatass epidemic, and they refuse our help.

I think these are okay on their own, they're so sweet and dense it's almost like a cake. but they are awful for making sandwiches or topping them with anything but butter. one exception might be a bbq sandwich with sweet bbq sauce so it plays with that sweet/savory balance nice, but burgers or anything that's mostly salty, all you taste is the sweet bread and I hate that on a burger

lazy kings sliders are underrated. season your ground beef in a bowl like you're making burgers, but instead press into 13/9 pan. Bake. Cut kings hawaiian rolls in half without separating. drain any excess grease from pan after burger is done, place top "bun" on top, turn pan over, add bottom bun. Cut along roll edges.

I've always hated them. Tried to make a turkey sandwich out of one the first time I tried them.Useless. WHY the fucking sweetness? Why?

They're nice because they're stuck together and you can cut the whole loaf in half lengthwise and make any kind of sliders you want easily
