About $500 for a Birthday meal. No. Not even remotely worth it. It was actually the worst "fine dining" experience I've ever had. All the other places where the bill was under $300 were much better.

Probably paid around $70 for the ingredients to make tamales one Christmas. They fed a lot of people though and now everyone asks me to make them again. Honestly the time to make them is worth more than the money. It's a pain in the ass.

I forget exactly how much it was but a 3 star restaurant for 2 was like 2k after spending an additional 400ish on dessert wine and some cocktails. Insanely great meal with 14 courses. Left feeling perfectly full. We spent nearly 4 hours there. This year will be the third time we've gone.

Once a restaurant becomes a certain level of expensive, it's no longer about the food, it's about showing off how much money you have. It's for the Upper-Middle Class Lawyer/Corporate/Tech type to show potential clients and sexual partners how they are the type of person who has a lot of money. And if the US Open proves anything to me every year it's that those people are ultimately without real taste. A Patek Philippe watch tells time just as good as the Apple Watch you got for free with your phone upgrade.

at the restaurant, I don't remember. Had a "Umami Steak" new york strip served with umami butter and bone marrow in a upscale diner. I dont remember the price, but but was before covid, so it must've been around 50-60.I made a 1 inch and a half aged porterhouse on the grill for my birthday. fucker cost me 70$, but man was it good. smoked over pecan and seared over the coals, basted with rosemary, thyme, garlic butter (pic related)

I don't really remember, maybe a couple of hundred for a birthday party at Benihana's or something.For myself, it was going to "Nino Gordo" in Buenos Aires last year, and holy fuck was that place totally not worth it. Practically flavorless food, and it was double the cost of any other restaurant I went to on my whole trip.

50 euros for braised beef and mash in a restaurant in Germany. It was alright, the beef was very tender but the sauce was too rich. It needed to be cut with some acidity or perhaps not reduced as much as it was. But definitely overpriced.

I tried to think of the most expensive "dish" I've eaten, not the full course. Full course was a tasting menu in Spondi, a michelin star restaurant at 150€ per person.About 100€ for an order of 2 fresh fish in Greece. With some wine and some other things it ended up around 130€ That's for 2 people. It was really fresh and beautifully cooked, but as a Greek used to fresh fish at restaurants, it was a bit overpriced for what it was.

Doubt I've ever paid over $100 for my meal, though the bill for my meal when I was taken out by a vendor probably has exceeded that, especially at steak houses. The most I've overpaid probably was the time I saw a contestant on some cooking show make four cheese macaroni with four expensive, artisanal cheeses. Only Whole Foods carried three of them, and while I don't remember the total cost, the resulting dish was not worth the price. I'm sure I paid with a credit card but I always paid off the balance each month, so it might as well have been cash. At the time I worked in IT for a high end law firm that paid a good, though sub-FAANG salary. The money spent on the cheese was a minor annoyance but one of little financial impact.

The most I paid was 100€. Totally worth it. Eye-opening experiences every time. I've had 750-1000€ meals (didn't pay for, business relations) and they were without exception a complete letdown. The people who invited me agreed each time. In one occasion we went to a small restaurant around the corner afterwards and had better food there at 20€ per person. This is with business professionals, by the way. Upscale wine traders, restaurateurs, suppliers. Not people in tech or DJs or whatever.
