i wouldn't bother. they're all cheap chinese made garbage. besides a cutting edge will dull eventually and it's not like you can resharpen it. just buy the cheapest $4 can opener and replace it every 1-2 years. better than spending $40 on some hipster made in germany can opener and having that crap out after 5 years.

I got an OXO smooth edge can opener, the one that actually releases the seal instead cutting through the metal, about a year ago and love it - haven't had any issues with it. I don't know how it's not just standard by now; even the electric ones just absolutely suck in comparison.

Did you guys know you're supposed to use can openers horizontally, not vertically? They work much better horizontally where the opener cuts into the side of the can, not the lid.

My kitchenaid one has lasted awhile but who knows if quality has been maintained (or improved?). I have a pizza cutter from them i think but the middle bolt part thing it rotates around got pretty rusty over time but the wheel cutter part is perfect.

OP. dude get on ebay and buy a can opener from the 1960's. I dont even use a can opener that much, after going through two in two fucking years (walmart bullshit), i said alright whats the fucking deal here?! trust me man, buy one from ther 1950's-60's off ebay. it might be a little bit expensive but you'll never have to buy another one again. I recently bought picrel (goodcook mini can opener) to keep at work, ended up buying a second for home. It just works so simply and well once you get the hang of it and it does not rely on a sharp edge or anything so will never go dull, it is very dull but turning the wheel forces it through the lid for you. A slightly larger version would be nice but other than that it seems the perfect can opener. They cost like $2.
