why are people like this? i even grew up in hurricane/nado country where going 2-3 weeks without electricity was normal but STORES who rely on DISTRIBUTORS and CONSUMERS have GENERATORS so as soon as the shit died down, roads were cleared to prioritize delivery of goods and stores were open within a matter of days no matter how fucked shit got. hottest commodities were gasoline and ice, not fucking toilet paper.

Honestly you people laugh at toilet paper hoarders, but you really don't have enough toilet paper yourselves. The average person uses 1 roll per day. If you have a family of 4, that's 28 rolls a week. Over 100 a month. TP rolls are worth their weight in gold because everyone needs it.

Just went out to pick up a small hand basket worth of chill out and shitpost on 4chan food. Some oranges, half a pound of organic chicken thighs, a piece of brie, a baguette, 2 bottles of wine, and that's it. Trade Joe's there's a line just to get in, at Whole Foods the checkout line, at 10:30 AM, was 300 people deep, people have their carts loaded up with canned beans, canned soup, bottled water, toilet paper. Ever since I was a kid and I saw the episode where Elaine was stuck in the toilet and had not a single square of TP. I knew then that I need to conserve it. I only use about 3 squares per wipe and a total of 15 squares maximum. I dampen the cloth to make it easier. I tried doing it with the prison style scott's paper but I couldn't do it. Quilted Northern or bust.

I don't understand panic buying. food is something you buy on a regular schedule. I buy orange juice once a week. unless I expect to be snowed in for more than a week there's no reason for me to buy any more orange juice than I normally would. now maybe if my usual shopping day was on monday and they were calling for snow on sunday I would buy it a day earlier, but that doesn't explain the insane spikes in buying you see. I can understand running out of things people buy every day or every couple days like meat or bread, but for things like toilet paper it's completely insane. I have enough toilet paper for another 4 or 5 months. there can't possibly be that many people out there down to their last roll.

People don't bother stocking up until they see others do so. They'll look at the forecast say something like "in a week there will be loooads of snow!" and not pay and heed until they see others panic buying. the result is that the herd all lines up outside the store for hours to buy the scraps left all a day before the storm, when they knew about it for a week. People are retarded sheep and the more you trust yourself the better off you will be.
