This is absolutely wrong. Curry in East Asia means a blend of ginger, turmeric, chillies, garlic, onions, cumin, coriander seeds and depending on variations - lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, star anise, cinnamon, etc. The tomatoes are optional and depend on the recipe. Cream, either regular or coconut, is often added.
Mexican/American chilli is nothing like that except for chillies, garlic and onions, it's closer to an Italian tomato sauce but with added chillies.
