It's fun as a hobby, kind of a dumb investment though. I don't have anything expensive but I like Seikos, Citizens, and Vostoks. It's a lot of fun.

A lot of countries customs agencies have resorted to hiring people with 20+ years of experience at authorized dealers due to the high volume of watches coming in, and even they have to pull most of the watches apart to find out if they are fake or not, because the quality of chinese fakes has shot through the roof over the past 5 years.So any time you see a rolex, AP or patek on somebody's wrist, you can assume it's a fake like 90% of the time. Most people are aware of this, which is why watches are no longer seen as a status flex

Collecting is dumb. They aren't investments, and any more than a few for different occasions is a discarded opportunity somewhere else financially speaking. Rolex is a boomer brand nobody wears anymore OP. If you want to flex that style of luxury diver, get a Tudor like a proper young person. Your next should be something casual that isn't an obvious pick-me-i'm-wealthy signal. A plain Longines, a wire bar Nomos, or a nice Oris or Tissot. Those latter three especially if you want something that resembles vintage. No bracelet, a NATO strap in leather or nylon only. If you're looking at JLC and VC you probably consider those brands beneath you but honestly it's a piece of art and an expression of you and your choices make you seem like a douche.

I have a Tudor date day which is about the limit I’m willing to spend but a part of me wants to sell it to fund a Rolex Explorer Selling watches seems such a hassle though, I’ve sold cheap ones but this would be at least 3k and the extra shit I’d have to do puts me off

This along with my first nice car were milestones in my life.Every time I come into a nice chunk of money, I try to spend it on hard items that appreciate. Enthusiast cars and watches are the best because if you ever need to sell both have pretty liquid markets, especially a Rolex.My next watch will probably be a sinn 104 for a new daily.Whenever link finally moons i want a Rolex day date without any gay ass bling on the dial.

Honestly I would go for the GS 37mm UFA (birch or lake suwa). Looked so nice when I saw one in person a few months back. I recently got my first swiss watch, a tudor ranger (pic rel). Been trying to save and maximize my retirement. Also trying to launch my solo practice next year. To anyone reading this, save your money and buy the Rolex, JLC, Patek, etc. later, when you have all your other shit in order.
