I don't have feelings the same way normal people do, I'm a diagnosed sociopath, but I still care about others, it's a profound selfishness that if the people that are my friends are hurting they can't serve their purpose as my friends. I know that isn't right, but that isn't something I can change nor is it the point of this post. One of my friends recently experienced a devastating loss, he knows I'm a sociopath, which makes him all the more important to me because he hasn't thrown me away, but I don't know how to respond to him losing 3 family members at once. I don't know what to do. I genuinely want to be a good friend for him, but I don't know what he needs. I can't relate because it's a unique situation, I can't tell him it'll all be ok, or that he'll get over it in time. I'm really at a loss. I want to comfort my friend, but I don't know how.

>it's a profound selfishness that if the people that are my friends are hurting they can't serve their purpose as my friends Isn't that just normal? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

>I want to comfort my friend, but I don't know how. Have you tried asking him? My own experience of grief was that I appreciated practical help: people giving me a hand with cooking, cleaning, and sorting through documents etc., all of which I simply didn't have the energy to do. There were also times that I appreciated people just being normal with me: for a while I could stop being "a person who has lost someone" and just be "me" again. But as to which of those things would benefit me more at any given moment, that's not something it would have been easy for anyone to judge if they hadn't asked.

>I know that isn't right Something tells me you don't really understand what the word "right" actually means. >but that isn't something I can change Have you tried?
