I was rejected in the past because I looked to young. (currently 24) Try older styles and haircuts. I stared growing out my side burns and specifically requesting my barbers using older photo's. I also went good will thrifting, I often buy suits and ties from there. Most will see you as "someone important" if your in a hot state, a polo and shorts with leather dress shoes also works well. I can't tell you the amount of times I've seen west cost upper class where that combo. IRS agent's, CPA's, town council. Look at the people with power near you and emulate their fit. I started hearing "your one of the good kids" and "I thought you were in your 40's" (see 1980s floral printed polo plus afro).
