What's the best way to navigate your situation if they are?

if its being done while you are present, its super easy. You walk up to them and ask them whats going on. If they don't have an immediate answer, or you believe that have changed the subject, then there is a good chance that they were saying unflattering things about you. Now I personally don't know in what circumstance you might be where you could have this suspicion but I will say the gut is usually not wrong about these sort of things.
