Obviously there's no way to do this physically. You will always physically experience the sensory chain that occurs when sound waves enter your ears. Mentally, you're also heavily at the mercy of the physical, as there's no way to prevent the signals generated in your brain in response to those sound waves.What can you do, then? Well, we've all experienced being so absorbed in something that we don't "hear" the sounds around us. We're physically hearing them, of course, and those signals are being transmitted to our brains, but our attention is so fully directed elsewhere that we don't notice them.This is what you need to cultivate: selective attention. You can't not hear external sound, but you can choose to not pay attention to it. Developed over time, this can become a reflex that will effectively be "turning off your ears" but until then, you'll need to practice developing the ability to focus on one thing to the point that your focus causes you to lose track of your other senses.Practicing basic meditation will get you most of the way there but based on your responses in this thread, I don't know if you have the drive or maturity for it.
