I was friends with this woman for two years before becoming a couple. We had been sort of soft-dating for a few months this year, going to dinner and movies often. In August, we made it official. We had a really good two months of being an official couple, both hitting it off with each other's siblings and parents. Around two months, when it started getting cold out, her smile had faded. I was worried about her. She told me she was depressed and that if she can't give herself 100%, she doesn't think she can give a relationship what it deserves. We're still friends and talk daily. We recently met up again to get dinner and see a movie we'd talked about seeing when we were together. She's smiling again and was telling me about everything she's been reading. She told me she's been in therapy. All of our mutual friends know that I was falling in love with her. Most of them, especially the women, have said that they're confident that this isn't the end for us and it's just a bump in the road. Am I delusional for listening to them?

Been in the exact same spot as you. She stated the exact same things about how she felt. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but we ended things, and she started seeing someone else immediately. Though to be fair, every relationship is different, and most of our mutual friends didn't really understand her actions either. Just tread carefully.

there are a lot of people who are so insecure in themselves they sabotage relationships they really want to be in, thinking they're not worthy of it. i'd just give her space and see if she opens up. i feel like everyone's become anxious/avoidant in this age.
