I'm just done reading the current 96 chapters of Witch Hat Atelier, and I gotta say that I'm surprised by the amount of despair there is in this story.
Also google AI said that the series is in its late-stage. Does that mean that it's ending soon?

Check the lyrics to the anime ED and the request the director made to the singer about it and you'll get the gist of the series' tone. tl;dr: it's about the world pushing people to the brink of despair yet refusing to take it lying down as they reach for the last sliver of hope. Coco is the perfect embodiment of this.>late-stage
This is true only in the sense that the series is a decade old and many things have happened, but there's been no indication from the author or publisher that it's close to ending. You should be able to tell from how the story is laid out that there's still a while to go, we know the girls will be taking at least four tests and they're only just approaching the third. There's also still much to go over with the main conflict about the use of magic. If I had to guess I'd say it's just over halfway.
