Bro seeing the moon at night is crazy too. You ever notice how it stays the same shape all night and even during daylight hours? A crescent on a daylight summer evening 8pm is the exact same crescent at the dead of night at 3am despite the three bodies apparently responsible for the moon's phases all being in completely different locations.
If earth's shadow causes the phases, then the moon should go through all phases every night, not take an entire month.

Moon is likely a reflector or is its own light source.
