Worship of the ancient Greek gods (Olympians, chthonic deities, heroes, daimones) using rituals, altars, and festivals. Modern “Hellenismos” often combines devotion with study of philosophy and classical sources.
>Is it just “paganism”?
Not really. “Pagan” is a Christian term. Hellenism is a living revivalist religion rooted in historical Greek practice.
>What is Neoplatonism and why is it relevant?
A philosophical system from Plotinus Proclus that explains the cosmos as emanations from “The One.” It influenced late antique Hellenism, theurgy, and esoteric thought. Devotees often integrate contemplation of the One with ritual worship of gods.
>What is theurgy?
Ritual practice aimed at invoking or communing with divine intelligences.
>How do I start practicing?

I have a question for this threadIt's clear that the Dionysian Mysteries are highly influential in the Hellenic Tradition, influencing so much of what we understand about life, creation, and rebirth. And then we have Nietzsche who created the modern Dionysian-Apollonian stuff.Apollo is also very important in this tradition, and he plays a major major role in the theology as well. But I was wondering, are these two Gods, Apollo and Dionysus, worshipped in tandem? Or do we treat them as separate cults? Did Hellenists ever view a kind of interrelation between Dionysus and Apollo? I know Apollo had domain over the sun, reason, and life as well. I guess Dionysus has a more chthonic element as well while Apollo seems to embody a more empyrean quality?

Thanks for the thread. A few years ago I planted a palm tree in the corner of my yard, and one night I had a dream during a thunderstorm that a Jew was pacing back and forth in my yard. Zeus struck him down with a lightning bolt while standing next to the tree. The next morning I wake up and there's a dead rat right next to the palm tree. A lot of people have this hangup in spirituality.
They think that if Jimi Hendrix was their guitar teacher they would become just as good as Jimi Hendrix at guitar. They think it is impossible to study Jimi Hendrix using youtube tutorial videos or playing along to his music.
This mindset is how a lot of people approach spirituality. They think they need a great guru to do everything for them, but they are unwilling to take humble beginning training steps that are freely available to anyone who will put in the work to do them.
The filter basically breaks down to "people who don't know how to teach themselves".

On the topic of Platonic-Buddhist literature, I want to recommend another book that's called Crossing the Stream, Leaving the Cave. It's a collection of articles by different authors comparing different aspects of Buddhist and Platonic thought. Although it's a bit more advanced, not an introductory text. You should have a least a good foundation on both Platonic and Buddhist thought before reading it.

https://files.catbox.moe/6fht6n.jpgthis old pic is a pretty good introduction about Pagan Neoplatonism, I don't know why the people in this thread went off the rails with the Buddhism thing, for me Buddhism (and Taoism) are only good (for a pagan) to have (or achieve as much as possible) a nodual consciousness to avoid unverified personal gnosis because the Theoi (and any very strong spirit) are too much for the pagan (mentally/mindful speaking) so one only receives a portion (aspect) of the entity but not the entire entity.The epithets are a clear example of this since they are aspects of an entity, but this does not mean that they are bad at all because making the entity focused on one area is better than having the entire entity itself, as an example, the aspect of Aphrodite the mother helps in childbirth and motherhood but Aphrodite as a whole would not help very well in this aspect. (Basically that old argument of using only necessary force or going overkill)

Platonic anon here, great thread. Who wants to discuss the daemons? It's sad there's nothing about them here yet. Apuleius for one said to worship the daemon is to worship philosophy in action. So what does Platonic /x/ know about these beings?

Okay I'll start then. So as many of you may know from a cursory look at Platonism there are three main hypostases or states of existence, monadic, noetic and psychic. The monad doesn't move, isn't a living being, neither does it think or reflect upon itself as such so therefore necessarily it emanates a mind posterior to it but this is still motionless and static albeit living and self-aware. Now these beings we call daemons dwell in the airy, animated and ever fluctuating psychical spheres and are living creatures composed wholly of subjective intelligence who mentate through an inalienable intelligible intuition. Also all of our mundane reality has at least a tangential or peripheral relationship with a daemonic power as everything here relates back in some way to a mobile intelligence. So they govern and care for creation through subjectively mediating intelligible form to tangible materiality and this is their purpose in general. A final conversation starter, one of the most astounding things I've uncovered about them is that the ancients genuinely held, as I do now, that under special circumstances they can come into a completely conjoined alliance with essentially co-aligned material things thereby using whatever object as a conduit for it's mind and presence including inanimates, beasts and yes humans too.

There is a small forgotten book that needs to be read before you delve into Neo-Platonism. It is the basic text of NP Philosophy. It’s “On the Gods and the World” by Sallustius, who wrote it in the calm before the storm of State Christianity wiped away religious tolerance. It is a defense of Non-Christianity.

Does Silvanus fit in with Hellenism? I know he has been equated to Pan, but I really feel an attraction to Silvanus because he was also equated to a British god from the region my family is from called Cocidius. I've been performing my weekly rituals and praying to Silvanus Cocidius, but I'm not sure he would really fall under Hellenism.

What I have experienced in the Pagan spheres is either total libertine type thoughts or this LARP of 19th-20th century puritanical moralism.
