I've been thinking lately, and there is no better place to get some points of view on it than this place. What makes a conspiracy theorist ? And I don't mean the plausible stuff like "The government is doing bad things while refusing to admit it", a tale as old as time. I mean provably false stuff like the flat earth, lizard people, gray aliens, just outlandish bullshit that has zero basis in reality but people will swear up and down that they believe in (and some of them actually do).
Is it really just schizoids ? Or just some childish form of contrarianism mixed with not being able to comprehend elementary school subjects like basic geometry disproving the flat earth ? Is it just plain and simple mental retardation, is it a psyop by the government to discredit the real stuff like MkUltra or a mix of all of the above ?
What, in your opinion, makes a conspiratard, /x/ ?

Conspiracy theorist as a term is altogether deceitful. There is no such thing. There are people who lie and tell tall tales, as there has been all through history. Myths and legends are born from "conspiracy theorists". Does it sound intelligent to call Homer a conspiracy theorist? No, it makes you sound retarded. Not the fucking Simpsons either. The conspiracy theory about Medusa? It sounds like something a retard would say. That's how you guys all sound using the term. Especially after seeing 90% of it is true and still fucking using it.
Tldr, a fucking retard is what creates a conspiracy theorist with their limited ability to correctly identify somebody who just saying the truth.
It’s occams backup razor, if the narrative is a lie, what’s the next most plausible thing. Technically it’s just occams razor if you’re not a normie or retard, but most people believe what they are told to.So if X isn’t true, then /x/ is.

It's well established that the government had multiple really large top secret military/aerospace projects in the 40s to the 80s that were so secret that they spent just as much effort obfuscating as they did building. Part of that obfuscation was spreading absolutely insane nonsense about UFOs to discredit anybody who saw anything unusualThey did it with jet planes during World war 2, hypersonic planes during the cold war, and stealth planes in the modern era. They developed the f-117 in 1972 and it was declassified in 1999. For twenty years straight if you saw a silent black triangle with no wings flying in the Nevada desert you were probaby just a schizo (until serbians shot one down in Sarajevo and they pretended they weren't giving it a victory lap before retiring and declassifying it)
