How does praying for yourself or someone else work? Why not pray for everyone on earth instead of a specific person? What about the problem of evil and divine hiddeness? What about all the people who's prayers don't come true? All the babies who get blown up and stuff

Most people have no results with praying because they ask God to give them something that is not from God, He doesn't like it. Materialistic and similar things that are from Satan.
This is why God doesn't give them what they ask for. And so they wrongly conclude it doesn't work.
More often than not people pray for money, winning the lottery (gambling sin), having hot sex partners (sin), having big houses, big cars, worldly power positions, the death of other humans etc. These are all from Satan. Of course, God will not assist you in your sinning attempts for a good reason.If you pray for health, better human relationships, higher spiritual advancements. It will work a lot more often than what probability would suggest. Obviously you have to pay for important goals more often with more desire. If you are on the path of sainthood or becoming like Jesus (no sex, no meat, no alcohol, no evil deeds etc), more of your prayers will be met. This is why religious people ask saints to pray for them. Their prayers are almost always successful.All prayers are heard and received. Keep on trying. Change the wording of your prayers. Pray with good intent.Praying for health recovery that stems from glutteny, alcohol, drugs, coffee, sex and other sins by a not so actively religious person with shallow faith in God and Jesus for selfish reasons won't be that effective. Prayer is talking to entities like angels, and elemental spirits who may or may not feel like helping you. Like talking to people, if you sound desperate, or whiny, or annoying they won't want to help you. So when you pray be positive, express gratitude, i.e. "Thank you for x happening" instead of "please god make x happen, I'm so sad and desperate!" It's like Law of Attraction, but also don't be attached to the precise outcome.
Like people, you should communicate with your angels and spirit guides on a regular basis to build the relationship, not just when you want something from them. And also realize that you are making things happen too, take action to make your wishes come true, don't just sit back and do nothing and beg supernatural forces to do everything.

It doesn't work at all. Just read the history of Europe. Murders, wars, genocide, disease, persecution of heretics, and so on (though inter-Christian wars took far more lives). The Church itself blessed the Crusades, wars between Christians, and so on, periodically reducing the population to critical levels.Just imagine sitting in the city in 2025, praying to God for help with money, work, and so on.
