1 We can imagine the future today. Good (utopian) or bad (dystopian) and so on.2 People also did this in the past. For example, imagine a Sci-Fi writer in the 1940s imagining the future. This often looks very different to our modern imagination. So we call it retro-futurismretro-futurism = how people at a different era in the past imagined the future3 'Cyber punk', as a genre of literary writing, came about in the 1960s and 1970s So many consider it retro-futurism when talking about the origins, key authors, key novels, etc.NOTE: This isn't a strict rule. The genre still exists today. It's like 'metal music' - it changes over the years and new sub-genres come and go. But sometimes academics want to be specific about where 'it came from'.

cyberpunk is "retrofuturism" in the sense that writers from the 80s thought people in the far future would still be using CRTs and tape decks and fax machines and such

so I've wztched the videos. if I understood it well, it says that science fiction went from space stories to more "down to earth" stories (things in the future happens no more in space but 9n earth). about cyberpunkpunk, I'd say it became popular and everything that becomes popular lose its soul
