I think the problem is the game is simply too granular to simulate history well. The AI in EU4 could be tardwrangled to achieve vaguely historical outcomes, or at least somewhat believable worlds, due to the limited number of provinces. There's only so far off the rails they can go. In EU5 due to the sheer amount of locations (and the devs refusal to give cunts railroaded cores) the map will always end up looking horrible.If 2.0 is not the railroad patch this game is done. Ambition trees are the last hope for this game.

I wish the game had feudalism, instead you will still spawn SOME levies in places with zero control and no one will build anything useful in fringe areas even if it's a relatively rich area. The game is CK3 but without the parts that make sense. In that game every province has a sub-owner character and you can only directly control X number of locations yourself without penalties, so you never have to build 200 training fields at the same time. In EU5 you have 300 noble characters and 295 of them don't do anything.

Sandbox v Railroading argument kind of misses the main problem with the game that history just kind of stops and most of the time you're stuck with the same great powers in 1837 as you are in 1335. Whereas in actual history with the exception of France the entire diplomatic landscape has changed multiple times and no the Mamelukes aren't still squatting on Syria. The only thing they've actually done well towards changing that is the Turks do shit for awhile now

I was honestly not a fan of being unable to reinforce a battle on the adjacent province if I act as soon as the enemy comes out of the fog. At least you got infiltrate administration relatively early in order to mitigate that, but there's still plenty of years before it.
