The gameplay doesn't change enough during those long campaigns and so each battle and siege are very often exactly the same until new units are unlocked.

The most baffling thing is they changed almost all starting general portraits for seemingly no reason. Everybody who has played Rome knows picrel isn't the bald beast with the very lively trait that Julii starts off with and it's such a minor thing to fix too and the only thing it can possibly achieve is to piss people off. It makes sense if you consider the fact that the devs are zoomers who haven't played the games but still.

As long as it's possible to make a mod that undos all the fanmod changes in the future. I've been burned by fanmodders and their retarded game design decisions too many times in all types of games to start a campaign in m2ex/rex and get ganked by a bunch of unwanted changes. The real mystery is why there isn't even more pushback against turning this project into a fanmod.

It's clear that the dev's design philosophy diverges from what made the original game enjoyable. Feedback is not a reliable way to get your opinions heard, there is too much focus on making the game look pretty while a lot of issues that actually affect core gameplay such as BAI and CAI are left unaddressed or have been altered in ways that have not been made transparent and have had unintended consequences. Not only that, but allowing a bunch of people playing heavily modded campaigns to vote in a poll to decide the direction of the project will result in REX/M2EX becoming exactly that: a fan-mod. It feels as though people who haven't really played the game/don't enjoy it are making changes without regard for all of the downstream effects, and aren't trying to adhere to the original scope of the project. The discord is an echo chamber where you'll be mobbed by yes-men and jannies for expressing dissent. Ironically it's drifting towards becoming a microcosm of CA game development culture and the existing issues within the playerbase.

It was made to improve the games, to build on them, not preserve them. I haven't done anything for that matter, not razing settlements nor executing prisoners, nor am I particularly rich or expansionist. My reputation is mixed, which isn't fine but also not the worst. I'm playing Sicily and basically all Europe is ganging up on me. Other factions are at war with 1, 2 enemies at most. I'm facing 8, with full stacks every other turn. Am I fucking this up somehow, or the mod doesn't alter this fundamental feature of the game?
