Hoi3 should have become the universal design standard.
Along with its cousin Eu3 it was an attempt to accurately represent historical events on a grand strategic scale. Sure plenty of things sucked, but in general it did a pretty good job for a game designed to run on most home computers.
I fully expected it would lead to future refinements with plenty of fixes and improvements.
Still playing it. Current game is United Kingdom ( with its ally France and all the little bumfuck puppets ) gone wild on a world conquest.
