Victory was achieved, and the American fleet turned tail and fled. However, it was not the total victory that the Navy expected.
This was the first battle in history where both sides had aircraft carriers, and the Japanese carriers focused on the attack, loaded almost entirely with torpedo bombers Exceptional American damage control saved all of its capital ships but one, American CAP was also surprisingly effective for 1925, and there were hairy moments when American squadrons attacked our carriers and battleships. Thankfully none of them were hit.
The threat of blockade is lifted, lessons were learnt and the three year long war will go on.
