Why isn't Nethack talked about more on this board? It's a very meaty RPG experience even if you're not fond of traditional roguelikes.

>RPG experience
This is a JRPG board. And you'd have to be able to read.

I prefer to discuss games I can actually beat, and I always die in Nethack.t. scrub

It's too tough for people these days. Nobody wants to learn how to play, spoiler use is rampant which sucks some of the fun out of the game. Newest version supposedly a "code cleanup" but changed many fundamental things, all for the worse, fragmenting the player base into several pieces.Despite all this it's great.

Because it's ancient and as good as it still is it has been surpassed by younger RLs in just about anything.
The mapgen is particularly archaic and hard to go back to.

I wasted so much time on DOS versions of Rogue, Adom, Palantir and Nethack in 1999. I can't look at this stuff anymore.

Games like Nethack don't work in the modern age. It's too obtuse to learn intuitively but once you know the spoilers it's trivial. This worked better decades ago where information came from rumors and advice instead of minmaxed wikis.
