I've played a lot of indie rpgs and Quartet is probably the closest to actually feeling like a AAA JRPG. In particular I found the writing to be surprisingly good for an indie game.

I love Open world FFT + Uncharted Waters (never played Uncharted Waters)
Wished the continents were actually explorable and those hidden grottos more varied

One of my favorite indie RPGs but it gets extremely repetitive by the end. All the simple simulation elements on top of the FFT foundation make it more than the sum of its parts for me

luv me some rad codex gameskingsvein was a bit of a disappointment, boat tactics remains the bestit seems the dev's output fluctuates between solid gold (voidspire tactics, boat tactics) and meh (alvora tactics, kingsvein) games like a sine wave

There is nothing more embarrassing, and obviously nostalgia-chasing, than RPGmaker games and JRPG's made by westerners, specifically indie games.
