your time is probably best spent doing anything else

Do it in the Pixel Remaster, since you can turn experience gain off and fight every battle. Someone on here already confirmed that you can recruit Mog last in the World of Balance. The only issue you will have in the Pixel Remaster is the Vargas fight. You cannot use Pummel against him immediately, you have to wait until Sabin triggers the tutorial. The first fight against Ultros is impossible unless you level up Banon a bit.

I suggest combining it with a 'natural magic game' (don't learn spells through espers or equipment) since that makes characters more unique. Also it's probably better if you don't worry too much about getting the absolute lowest level. Not because it's difficult, but because certain dungeons have random battles that you can't escape from and therefore are forced to get exp or reset and try repeatedly until you make it through without encountering those enemies. And in order to manipulate the level characters join you have to recruit characters in a particular order to keep the average level down and you can leap gau off at the veldt. E.g. you need gau to soak exp when you go to the floating continent, then you need to gone before you recruit shadow. The floating continent has inescapable battles. In retrospect it was probably a bad choice to aim for the lowest 'average level' since gau did way too much damage with fixed dice.

>a low level run? why though? AFAIK that should only be doable with savescumming, tool-assistance(some would call it cheating), or abusing certain blue magic.

this games a bit too linear, and doesnt give you the right tools until the very end to actually get creative 5 is definitely much better suited to it with its job system

I hope you enjoy the Veldt grind to learn Magic. It's the most valuable place for you to spend your time. As learning Magic is going to be very important. Otherwise, you should know which Rages to teach Gau, which Blue Magic to teach Strago, where to go to learn Mog's Dances, and where the good items are. A low level run isn't overly difficult, if you're more familiar with the finer details and ins/outs of the game. I also suggest not abusing M.Block or Vanish+Doom/X-Zone, because those remove the actual challenge.

FfXV was my forst FF and 6 having played it recently, took the throne. The characters were excellent amd charming. I'm not sure I agree with the guy who suggested a "natural magic" run. Equipping espers to characters and training them in different magic is a core part of the gameplay and grind loop. If your not utilizing that feature, your not really even experiencing the game as intended. On top of that your looking at a ridiculous grind to lvl 99 to get the Ultima spell.
