So, as a new player to the series, you just play Origins then skip to Inquisition and then forget about anything else with this (dead) franchise? Did I get this right?

2 is fine for the most part, not particularly good, not bad either. Still better than Inquisition.

Origins > pretending they never made another game > acknowledging they did but refusing to play them > 2 > Veilguard > Inquisition

2 is unironically the best game in this shit series. You should just skip all of them truth be told.

DA2 is better than Inquisition by a mile. Do NOT waste your time on Inquisition. But really, DA2 is bad as well. The unfortunate reality is you play this game and then forget about the franchise.

Just play Origins and call it a day. Inquisition is not terrible but it hardly feels as part of the same world and you can probably find plenty of games that do whatever Inquisition could do better than inquisition itself by now. So many promises broken by that game.

No? You just play Origins.

Years ago I tried Origins but dropped it within an hour because of how mind numbingly boring the dialogue was. Is this because I picked the noble class or is the whole game like that?

I played DAO for the first time this year and was massively disappointed. It was just Baldurs Gate again, but a lot worse. Same developers too. Supposedly game 1 is the best in the series so I just took all four off my backlog

My main problem was that it had extra hard combat, and broken party ai. Those do not go well together

DA2 still plays like the same game, tweaked but you can absolutely tell that it was a canceled expansion pack extended into a standalone game.Whereas Inquisition is a completely different type of game on a new engine and I could never get into it.

You play Originns + Awakening + Witch Hunt and retire your MC with your witch wifeOther games in the series don't exist

Origins and then Awakeningnand then do a different origin and class in Origins until you get bored.Just skip everything else unless you REALLY like the story, then maybe DA2 is worth it.

I tried all three games over the years and never got very far in any of them despite trying really hard (and being a big Bioware fan). Origins: I loved the concept of origin stories and the dark tone of the writing, like getting raped as a female elf or being a lowlife dwarf. The combat didn't grab me much. But the worst part was the design of everything around you. The ridiculous armors, ugly character models and implausible architecture made me want to claw my eyes out. I'm a stuffy archaeologist so it really, painfully bothered me because the designs are in a kind of uncanny valley between "realistic" and fantasy. I never had problems with more outlandish stuff like Final Fantasy and such. 2: All-round improvement for me, but I played it even less because the environments were so boring and the characters so unlikable. Inquisition: This one killed the series in my eyes. It epitomized all the distasteful design of the first two with the most cringeworthy cast of characters I've ever seen in any media franchise. Voice acting that sounds like nails on a chalkboard (Cassandra and Leliana with their stupid accents), writing that can only be described as Tumblr-esque, aimless quests, pointlessly huge open areas, etc. At one point, when you move to the big castle in the mountains, there's a cringeworthy singing cutscene that's like a Disney musical, it's all so tone-deaf. However I found the visual design a big improvement, armors and environments all look fine (but character faces are mostly ugly as sin).

Skip all the games and just read the David Gaider novels and the big coffee table book. Spend your time working up a homebrew tabletop RPG system using the world of Dragon Age. None of the games are that great.

Origins -> 2 -> Inquisition -> you headcanon your inquisitor dealt with solas and the blights and the world looks however you want it to be because it will be better than the clusterfuck that is veilguard (but they inevitably would've dealt with key stuff in any sequel so look up a rough plot summary) 2 isn't a great game but it's fun enough for one playthrough and it sets up the story for inquisition. just ignore the qunari assassin dlc genuinely one of the worst dlc I've played
