Do the mage (the one near the venders) sidequest in old camp.
There r people in the old camp that lets u party with them to the other camps. Their kills counts as your xp so just had them fight most of the encounters.
U want to this for xp and for wolf teeth which is required for the mage quest.
Gather the other requirements and u can now obtain a fire rune. A range attack that does a lot of damage especially early game (regarding the mana problem just go to sleep or gather herbs u find in the wild which grants mana regen). Pro tip don't bother being a mage it's not good especially in later chapters

a) Get a ranged attack
b) Exploit the terrain, so melee enemies can't reach you

Im new as well, got about 15 hours in, recently began chapter 2. Heres some things I learned so far that were useful, ill try to keep them spoilery free
>focus on ranged combat at first, you can find shortbows and arrows for free
>the mapmaker in old camp charges a lot for the basic map. If you go see a merchant in the marketplace he charges half the price
>loot everything that isnt nailed down. Dive into water and search, steal what you can from everyone. Your inventory space is unlimited and currency is very hard to come by
>if no one sees you stealing something, its now yours. Merchants also dont seem to care whether something was stolen or not and will buy anything from you
>learn2lockpick.
>training matters!
>different merchants buy things for different prices
>pay your protection money, until you can defend yourself
>talk to everyone, and be nice when talking to people
>the hut in the old camp with the red tarp, near the arena, is yours to use. You dont even need to ask anyone
>learn the hunting skills as soon as you can. Teeth, skins etc add up in value fast.
>there is an npc in old camp marketplace who teaches magic with a quest. Take the fire spell as the reward. Its the best early game damage dealer
>dont buy the first armor you find. Merchants charge way too much, and you can actually get a free set. An npc in old camp can take you to the new camp, and nearby to it is the new camp mine. If you ask the foreman to be a digger, he will give you a free set of armor. You dont actually have to do anything for him
>previously mentioned npc is also part of a quest. If you talk to the old camp guard who protects the castle, you can ask about a "super important quest" and its to get the new camp npc out of old town. Talk to the new camp guy and tell him hes in trouble. He will take you to the new camp, kill all the enemies on the way and you get the xp. When you eventually return to old camp the guard guy will be happy.

almost none of the quests you get can be immediately solved, or in the same area
entire game is about delayed gratification and conquering previous unsurmountable obstacles
do the no-danger quests
get escorted to another camp, repeat
backtrack, get escorted to the next one, repeat
get free armour from free mine
if you have the chance, you can knock out the three escorting NPCs for some valuable early xp (and loot if you wanna be a pos)
do Torrez's quest and pick a rune (heals is twice the value in ore but firebolt allows you a viable non-bow way to kill mobs)
(optional) lockpick Lee's chest for a ring of strength(extremely optional) be autistic and lockpick everything except maybe swamp since there's not much and two chests are inaccessible until Baal Namib and Orun move out laterandgame is not difficulty per se, there's plenty of speeedrunners who finished it via bullshit strategies
play "realistically" the first time around, don't try to play as a hero
from chapter 3 onwards you can realistically begin to clear the entire map
>pic related
the single most bullshit fight right up to chapter 4
they moved the SB, you can hardly cheese or kite it, probably filtered a lot of pure bow or pure magic builds
learn to fight

Can you get away with stealing? I lured a minecrawler to a templar which then got knocked unconscious. I looted his stuff, including his sword.

Learn single handed weapon skill early. They nerfed fighting without it hard.
From the hunting skills you need to invest it to learn, only get the one to get furs/skins. This one is related to a later quest that you'll fuck up without it (the frost shadowbeast hide for cavalorn, you can kill it before you get that quest and it doesn't respawn, and if you didn't have the skill before that you can't get it, unless they patched it ofc.). Others aren't worth it. They cost too much ore, and with the economy changes they'll pay themselves off super late, and by that point ore doesn't matter much, and before that they also cost learning points. Wolf teeth you can buy without learning the skill.
Do the mage quest in the old camp and get the fire bolt rune. You can get through a lot of stuff early by spamming it and regenning mana easily by drinking water or smoking weed.
You can beat people up for extra xp, but unlike the classic others around will usually fight you too, so unless someone is separated, you need to be able to beat everyone in the vicinity. Save before you try, because sometimes they might not de-aggro after you fuck them up.
Unless they patched it, or you're not going for melee, max strength, then get drunk as fuck, then you can learn more of it beyond the cap. After that you can also learn from the dude in the new cap too iirc. And after that spam potions.

seems like I missed the full threads about Gothic, I guess the krauts are already back to the 2001 OG modding scene
>only one third of players reached Chapter 5
wtf?
I suppose a lot are playing the GOG versionman the game is a 9/10 from so many regards but holy shit is the "free mine raid" a let down.
Not only did they not address "le secret mountain pass" that Gomez used but the mine looks to have even LESS npcs than the original. A 15 man garrison big whoop

Lockpicking in this game is horribly time consuming. The posted solutions don't even work.https://lorthiz.github.io/gothic-remake-solved-locks

I just started the original and it seems to hold up really well outside of the controls.
I switched to using a controller with that Zpad mod or whatever it's called in steam workshop, but I really wish just had the controls of Elex or something.
When do the controls of Piranhabytes games get more refined to where they feel modern? Risen or something?I only really have experience with Elex. I can definitely see that game's roots all the way back here though. It basically seems like they just made Gothic in a different setting

Is the remake good? Or is it standard "demake" with censored stuff?

I'm getting killed easily by the Biters in the Orc Cemetery. I'm using a Longsword and Digger's Trousers. Am I under-equipped or something?

How was I supposed to know that you aren't supposed to drink permanent stat potions before hitting 100 strength? I ruined my save.

>be millennial gamer
>missed the Gothic when it came out
>hear about it though
>always "it's better"
>remake happens
>ok I should play it then
>boring, empty dialogue with no punch at all
>story??? (to forget)
>try to join the le stoner weed camp
>15 tedious fetchquests later
>"ur not high enough level" checkpointed
>nonstop combat
>yep more combat
>zero defensive options, combat is basically just rocket tag with unrealistic weapons and beasts
>where enemy hitbox connection absolute bullshit
>post-post-post grindan and training attacking is still a crippled man stumbling on a small rock and dies tierno, this game isn't "better"

are there enough learning points to max both strength and dexterity, and learn both sword and bow techniques?
