Because what is special about your character is shared with the other main companions, except you're mute and they have something else that is special also. Also if you play as one of them, you become mute.

Larian has this weird thing, maybe modern Larian at least, about not liking OC main characters. They want you to play one of their own characters.

i prefer silent protagonists for role playing
play durge if you want your character to be a special person (tm) like your companions
bg3 isn't as bad as dragon age origins where you can make your best friend the king but dwarves can't become king/queen even though it makes sense in the lore, the warden is way more of a side character than tav/durge

the funny thing is despite that you have absolute power over ur companions and can make every decision for them no matter how ridiculous it is. Even in bg2 ur companions had mind of their own and could abandon you or even fight to death with other companions

You have internalized feelings of self-inadequacy which you project into media you consume.
And this is only countered by “EXTREME” levels of making the character you project upon central to everything. You should try reading / watching / playing some the chinese / korean cultivation or isekai “cheat” stuff - you’ll find that a pretty good fit for what you’re looking for.

If you want to experience a better story, you have to play dark urge. Sadly only realized this on a second playthrough

Because they wanted to jam this origin character shit into the game. Also BG3 is extremely overrated. It's a 6/10 game maybe with 7/10 gameplay and a 4/10 story.

Because all the characters around you are poorly written

>am I playing a side character? Finally! The normies are getting it.Yes you are. It’s a thing all modern RPGs are doing. You aren’t the hero, isn’t that “fun”?Now just think about V and Cyberpunk 2077….

Because you're supposed to pick The Dark Urge, but they didn't tell you that
