Most rpgs just don't have interesting magic at all and many use the god awful vancian magic too. The only RPG I really want to use magic is Morrowind. Everything else just feels lame.

I like to play human fighter prioritizing int cha wis. Prioritizing non combat and using magic items to get by. But most games don't have intricate enough dialogue systems to make this fun.

Personally, I just have a hard time putting myself in the head of someone that lives in a world with magic and doesn't want to at least dabble a bit in it. Not necessarily going full wizard, but at least using it a bit in some complimentary fashion to whatever you do. I just don't bother if the magic system really fucking sucks mechanically or is entirely based around waiting 8 hours every once in a while.

TES literally has a battlemage academy and several classes that wear heavy armor and use magic. I'm just not sure what you are asking for. Magic is still hard to learn in this setting. Armor is hard to wear in this setting. An individual could do both but they would be inherently rare. The idea that every mage should throw on a suit of armor or every warrior should know magic as a setting rule is retarded
