Holy fuck the WIP for Mage Reborn 2 is bad.
It's like he's read ITFO and decided to get in on the angst train but the best he can manage is "woe, both sides bad, but also both sides good" repeated ad nauseam. Or he can't figure out an elegant way to establish the MC's viewpoint for narration while allowing it to be changed over time. Or, maybe, he's just too big of a pussy to commit to either [fantasy oppressed minority culture] or [protagonist faction from first book] being portrayed as purely in the wrong because either option would make people mad so he's resolved to waffle his way through the entire thing.
Whatever the case is, it's hard to stomach the constant back-and-forth and compulsive need to inject "but remember they have good reasons" whenever one of the sides is condemned, and "but remember all the atrocities they committed" whenever they are praised.

I finished the first Fallen Hero. It was pretty decent though I think I played it in the most boring way by always picking the cautious and subtle options. Also I found Ortega pretty grating probably because I saw that image of her as a fat Mexican so being her friend made me cringe, it's like someone inserted their Oblivion avatar abomination into the game or something, the power of my imagination was not strong enough to prevent this entirely. so I kept her at a distance for the most part which made me not very attached to any of the characters, even the one I was supposed to like I guess. I also realized way too late that saying I lost my telepathy was probably a useless choice and I should have just mindraped Lady Argent, oh well.

i don't really read forums other than this thread and I don't pay attention to social media as a rule so idk what wang's up to, i geniunely don't understand how people on forums could like Isabella when she's the most secretive, retarded totalitarian dictator ever. in a lesser evil comparison wulfram laps her completely, he's not completely purging the upper/middle class of dissidents and keeping hush about the plan to save the country tm while the working masses are starving on the streets, wulfram set up soup kitchens and atleast made an apparent effort to alleviate the suffering. i do have my qualms with him, as a character thats witnessed first hand the sheer retardation of the terrian military the reform absolutely is necessary if the country doesn't want a repeat of the past two books and wants to have an attempt at keeping it's sovereignty from the not Chinese and the elves. he's also backed by the old guard baneblood which I'm ehh on they've got their own can of worms of corruption and my dragoon supports women's rights because welles is cute and i'm a sucker for playing the self-loathing cynic/mercy dragoon. which is why i ended up going royalist (because the actual dude i wanted to ally with left to hang himself and i got forced onto it) and it fitted my character thinking wulfram was an idealist and being too cynical to take the plunge on the coup plan. he ended up royalist but he hates basically everyone (other than welles who did nothing wrong) on the royalist. and the royalists aren't too keen on him because he spent all of lords desperately trying to stay neutral and out of the tribalism groupthink

Princess (and later Queen) Isobel was key to this. As a new character, I could build her character from scratch in a way which both made her cold intellect and pragmatism a contrast to Wulfram’s geniality and ironclad sense of noblesse oblige – and also showed a character whose flaws could lend some credence to the ultimate Wulframite claims that she was a tyrant in waiting.Of course, that doesn’t mean I’ve balanced the factions evenly. The fandom debates I’ve seen seem to skew heavily Royalist. But the fact that there are drawn out, vibrant, sometimes vicious debates where both sides bring in reasoned arguments they earnestly believe in the first place (which more than one person has likened to in-game Cortes sessions) means I’ve done a pretty good job
