Don't listen to /vrpg Wrath of the Righteous is extremely well received. A lot of people on here are haters and think everything that doesn't remind them of that special game they played as a kid that they think was the "last time games were good" or "best game ever". They'll tell you "everything is dogshit now" "go play balders gate 2" I've played BG2 it's all bullshit, anons here are drunk on nostalgia and are often psychologically incapable of processing new content rendered by their conviction that it's "just not like it used to be". Wrath of the righteous is significantly better than kingmaker and worth playing.

The main campaign/story is shit. The tacked-on management sim is doubleshit. The way time management is handled in the game is tripleshit.
I just wanted a comfy isometric (don't get autistic about the term, you know what this means in context) crpg adventure with combat, exploration and an engaging story. Instead I'm the janitor for a shithole kingdom and the game expects me to keep punching in my timecard to make sure it feels like a chore instead of an adventure.
Saying it's "loyal to source material" is the most retarded cope for this so don't bother saying it.
The "the fey did it" theme is also quadrupleshit. Yuck.
"Disjointed" is the single best word to describe how this game feels.

Be warned that it gets much worse after act 4 or so. The companions are bearable, the system is obviously trash and the mini game and navigation sucks. No reason to not use mods. Toybox or what's it's name.

Act 1 is always the best act on pathfinder games. Act 2 is always consistently unfocused and inconsistent. Like, the first antagonist is always far better developed than the mid bosses that come after it.My guess is they like to focus the second act on party character development but some of those are really weak and, on Kingmaker specially, the player is left with absolutely no choices. Basically you play it how the devs want or the party members will betray you and die on act 3. Like seriously, Valerie and Tristian quests are both shit. Octavia and Regongar is also pretty weak. Basically you play this for Amiri and Jaethal quests. That´s it.What they call the good ending is trash too. They seriously tell you Yeah, this chick lied you and every other partner that trusted her, tried to kill you multiple times but please understand she is a victim that deserves happiness as well so if you are a hero you´ll forgive her and be cool with the vixen.It´s hilarious.

Turn off turn-based mode and it gets much better. Usually I prefer tb gameplay, but in this case it wasn't included in the original release and the game is balanced for rtwp.I had a good time with pfkm which is more than I can say for Owlcat's later releases. Design does feel rushed starting around Pitax but that's late game.

The game is only “good” for the first 4 Acts, then after that the pacing falls apart and the Kingdom Management system strangles itself. The worst part about the game are the companions; almost every single one of them are insufferable to interact with or have some cringeworthy backstories and quests that will make you hate them regardless of their personalities. Jaethal, Harim, and the gnome were the only ones I could stomach. Tristian is solid but his aforementioned backstory and questline ruin his character.
