Do you guys still do this? When I was young, I would grind the hell out of my party in RPGs even on ones I hated (Like Pic). Nowaday unless I level up naturally through the game, I usually dont go out of my way to level up my party. What sbout you?

I did that for XBC3 but not 2 or 1 With FF6 probably the optimal leveling strategy is to boost at level up with esper equip bonuses

Rpgs are too easy so I usually stay under levelled and just try to beat them faster than a normal casual playthrough. I watch speedruns as I play and just copy some of their low risk strats, easy strats. My first playthrough of trials of mana 2D took around 10 hours and I was very under levelled. If I had been playing blind it would take twice as long and I'd be over levelled for sure. Yuck!

When I was young I did a lot of grinding in two games to get really overpowered and see how quickly I could take out the final boss. It was a truncated form of speedrunning and kept me occupied until another game would come out for me to play.In Phantasy Star IV I would grind my party and try out all of the individual characters you could challenge the final boss with. I recall going into one of those mecha facilities at the front gate and just running in circles to grind experience points and level up. Ooze (final boss) got wrecked so damned hard. I love this JRPG more than any other and want it remastered properly. The hard mode romhack is fantastic.In Final Fantasy VI I did solo or duo level grinding (usually with Shadow as the mentor character) on that island where you could fight the dinosaurs and would equip the proper espers to sculpt stats and build my team to be beasts. It made Kefka a joke.Other than that, the only other time I did it as an adult was in SMT IV: Apocalypse with the bonus dungeon one summer because you could farm the fiends for special drops, and every loop (up to like 7-8x) the bosses all got stronger, so it really gave you something to shoot for. It was probably the best I've ever seen end-game content implemented in a turn-based JRPG.

At the age of 11-12 I grinded around 100 different Pokémon to lvl 100 in Blue. I can tell you that the clock freezes at 255:55 but I probably played at least 800 hours. At first I did some basic math and quickly figured out that the fastest way to get exp was to challenge the E4 again and again. And so I did. This meant that I sometimes had non final evolutions as well as final evolutions to lvl 100, like a lvl 100 Meowth and a lvl 100 Persian.

I still do. I first did it with FF2snes in high school. All my D&D buddies wanted to borrow my cartridge because my guys were maxed out. Also did it a year later with Secret of Mana. I found/find it relaxing. Once I beat the game I grind to max level to see how quick I can trounce the boss.

I like to do it in handheld RPGs, console RPGs I take more seriously and dont really like to artificially delay the end of the game and when its over its over. It also depends on how easy it is to get good xp, in Dragon Quest ill sometimes spend more time grinding when I dont have to just because hunting metal slimes is fun.

I soloed bg1 and got to end and got smashed I wonder did they prepare the end agaisnt soloing? Someone told me on a forum some cleric stuff can save u and u can heal up and then come back at em and thats how its donehavent bothered since I found no summon limit on skeletons so u can have an army of them and funny cuz celrics can noly use sling as missile which is mad weak in 3rd ed DND in real world sling 1 knock death if skilled

Looking at screens like that makes me ill desu. I'm pretty sure the most I've ever grinded organically was to the high 60s in ff6. I have done exp hacks with game sharks etc. You can get the same beefy numbers in about 5 minutes. Takes the impressiveness out of the achievement and the fun out of the game at the same time. But why waste your precious time on Earth grinding that much anyway? Why would you not just pick up another game? You could probably finish 3 or 4 retro final fantasies in blind runs in the time it to takes to grind one of them to level 99/quad nines/trip nines/255 every where.

I don't really grind levels in most games. The only things I'll grind out are JP for jobs, or materia, or something related to skills.

Depends. I explore everything so I might get to max just by that. Some games you're meant to do a stupid grind so I will. These generally have an exp area. But for general games, no. They're long enough.

Repostan on the thread. Been reolayong Valkyrie Profile and I remembered when I grinded almost all my characters to 99 in the post game dungeon. Seems I missed a few. I miss when I was young and had all the time in the world.

I did it with FF6 for Locke and discovered that you can one shot Kefka's final form with X attack and two Atma Weapons (you can only steal the second one from one of his earlier forms). You do 8 attacks of 9999 damage, and he only has 62,000 life. Plus, I think only the displayed damage caps out at 9,999.
